Sermons on Lamentations 3:22

Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail.It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail.It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.It is of Jehovah’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

… of it I do but it hasn't consumed me in the way that it should Jeremiah says is through the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because his compassion fails not he didn't say this when he was on the other side he's still sitting in devastation he's still sitting in destruction his soul was sinking but the Lord sent him a reminder this is who I am my mercies are new every morning and Jeremiah starts singing a different song he starts talking about great is your faithfulness the Lord is my portion says my soul the Lord is my portion says my soul oh see you got to remember that just a few verses up his soul was sinking but he brought that sinking soul into the presence of God and when he brought that sinking soul into the presence of God a light flicked on in his mind and all of a sudden he was in the presence and he remembered who his God was and he remembered how his God showed up in the past and when he remembered that it changed what his soul was saying then his soul begins to say the Lord is my portion therefore I hope in him in the middle of this pain in the middle of this devastation I recognize that the Lord is my portion so I can have hope in the middle of despair when you get to a point where you allow your pain to be the birthing place of hope your faith then has the job in the …

Where’d You Go?

Lamentations 3 verses 22 and 23 says the Lord's mercies through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed because his compassions fail not they are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. I love the morning. I hate getting up. But I love the morning because Lamentations 3.23 has in a way become what, if you could call it a life verse. Because if I have a rough day, if I have a rough evening, I always look forward to tomorrow morning. Why? Because the Lord's mercies are new every morning. this was an invitation for Ephesus to return to their first love. I love this. Jesus doesn't say, hey, you put me out, so I'm going to lock the door from the outside as I burn the church down. Jesus says, come back. Come back. And so this is their invitation, and this is also your invitation. That if you're sitting here this morning and you recognize, you know what, yeah, I have become like Ephesus. I have allowed it to become all duty. I'm plugging away. I'm serving away. I'm doing all the right things. But the love for Christ has gone. Then let today be the day you come back. Now, before you argue with me and say that this invitation does not apply to you, I want you to notice down in verse 7. Look in verse 7. …

That was seven people. what's that word every morning great is your faithfulness they're new every morning these kids have no idea how good they got it with their mama she shuts down the mall of course because that's how she rolls and early on sunday mornings i like to get up and i go to the same place and i study and i pray and i drink coffee and i go early on Sunday mornings, and when I got back to my house this morning, our van was gone. And I thought, oh, great. Our house, our car got stolen on Easter Sunday. But no, she had gone to open up a bakery and be the first person at a bakery to get the boys fresh bread that they wanted. I thought, I'll barely give them a bar. …

… with the misery and the weight but somewhere in the middle you get but this I recall to my mind therefore i have hope it is of the lord's mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not they are new every morning great is thy faithfulness but but that doesn't last too long because you start walking over in the chapter four and you deal with the with the guttural visceral experience of affliction somebody say affliction chapter one deals with the aftermath of the babylonians destroying jerusalem and now the people have to deal with the chaos and the people have to live in the upheaval in the siege and the famine and the rawness of human suffering according to the wisdom commentary on lamentations bitter memories and theological crises and psychological confusion and rock bottom hopelessness saturate these poetic stanzas in the book of lamentations but by the time you get to lamentations five all you get is an appeal somebody say an appeal you get this prayer from verse one through verse 22 the people have dealt with chaos and their towns have dealt with crashes and their concerns and they're trying to make sense where is god in all of this what is god trying to tell us there are people in leadership that don't care about the least the last the lost or the left out they're they're they're wrestling with their humanity they see death and destruction all around them did you see that plane in …

… and therefore I have hope it is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed his compassions fail not they are new every morning great is thy faithfulness great is thy faithfulness I came by this Sunday to tell you something that I believe God has pressed on my life and I want to press it into yours and it's simply this things are about to get better if you felt that automatically just if you know that you believe things are about to get better beloved when I shared with my preaching pastoring friends the desire to preach from Lamentations they challenged me I said that's an awful strange book to preach from on a day of celebration because Lamentations is exactly what its name says it is it is a story of sorrow it is a song of lament it's one of those books that an author said that if you weren't depressed before you read it you sure will be by the time you get to the end lamentations is Jeremiah putting pen to paper to describe how sorrowful he is as he watches the Babylonian occupation destruction and exile of citizens from Jerusalem. …
