Sermons on Philippians 1:27

Nevertheless, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending together as one for the faith of the gospel,Only let your way of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News;Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you or be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;

… what happens. Now, one of the key verses is Philippians 1, chapter 1, verse 27. It's at the top of the message outline, Philippians 1 27 says this, whatever happens, whatever happens, conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the good news of Christ. Have you ever held a pity party for yourself? It's quite easy to throw a pity party. All you have to do is think up a list of everything negative in your life and then think about it over and over and over and then feel Sorry for yourself. Last Tuesday, I gave myself a pity party. It was a good one. And first I thought of the chronic pain that I'd been feeling for three weeks that was sapping all my energy. And then next I thought of all the things that I wasn't getting done and the pressure that I felt from those deadlines because I hadn't been feeling good. So I had pain and pressure. Then I thought of the people who needed my help. And I thought of some other people who were upset in case that wasn't enough, I thought of all the problems in the world that we just keep hearing about. So you got pain, pressure, people, and problems. These are the four most common sources of unhappiness. They're what I call the killjoys, the common killjoys of life. …

… Verse 27 says, Let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel. Here's the verse. not in any way terrified by your adversaries which is to them proof of perdition but to you of salvation now think through this verse this is really powerful not in any way terrified by your adversaries which is to them proof of eternal judgment so think through this every time you and are victorious over a fear issue, what is broadcast on the PA of hell, the powers of darkness, is pending doom, absolute eternal judgment. And they try to get you to fear so they don't have to think about what's coming. I've got some really good news for you I heard just recently every time we are victorious over the fear issue what happens is the enemy all the powers of darkness come face to face with the fact that they are eternally doomed and there is no solution and that's what the victory over fear does is it pronounces, it announces it reminds what is coming their way. No wonder the powers of darkness work so hard to get us in fear, both to dislocate us in our sense of effectiveness, but also to erase from their thinking what they are facing. That's amazing. That's amazing. …

See Something, Say Something
Levi Lusko, 2026-02-02

… but you would be if you knew. Philippians chapter 1, verse 27. Look at this. Let your conduct, look at that. What does it say? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ. Another place Paul puts it this way. adorn the doctrine with your beautiful living. There, for some of us, if in truth, the way we live, the way we bump into the world, it would almost be better for you to not say anything because your life is speaking so loudly. You know, David was told, this is King David, this is a really tough sentence to hear. He was told, the way that you've lived, is giving people reason to blaspheme God. Because if they look at your life, the advertising that you're doing with your body defies everything that would be coming out of your mouth. So it's important. None of us are gonna do it perfectly. And again, we're not after perfection. We're after progress and authenticity and reality. …

… and like Philippians 1, let me just read real quick. Philippians 1, verse 27. says this, Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ so that whether I come and see you or I'm absent, I may hear that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel and not frightened in anything by your opponents. this is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation and that from God. He says it's when the church, when we start believing in our own power, we're no longer afraid. Like I can be his witness. I'm not going to fall into sin. I'm not going to keep on sinning. His spirit is in me. And we start striving side by side, unafraid. He says that's when the world is going to believe in their destruction. In our salvation and that from God. Don't you realize this is what Jesus prayed. When you can be perfectly one. …

Putting God Back at the Center
Francis Chan, 2018-03-01

Can we just put those differences aside and go, man, we've got to get Jesus to the people. I mean, the Bible says, I love that passage in Philippians 1, verse 27. He says, let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ. So that whether I come and see you or I'm absent, I may hear of you. that you are standing firm in one spirit with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation and that from God. The Bible says when we can be of one mind, when we as believers can get together and go, Okay, enough fighting in here. We're family and we strive side by side. This is not afraid of anything. I mean, the thing is, is when we strive side by side, that's when we won't be afraid of anything. You know what I mean? …

Here's the verse. not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them proof of perdition, but to you of salvation. Now think through this verse. This is really powerful. Not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them proof of eternal judgment. So think through this. Every time you and I are victorious over a fear issue, what is broadcast on the PA of hell, or the powers of darkness, is pending doom, absolute eternal judgment.
