Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets and his holy scriptures regarding his son who as to his human nature was a descendant of David and who through the spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the son of God by his resurrection from the dead Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him and for his name's sake we receive grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints, grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because your faith is being reported all over the world. God whom I serve with my whole heart and preach in the gospel of his Son is my witness. How constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times. …

… according to the flesh and was declared to be the son of God in power according to the spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead Jesus Christ our Lord through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about. So this is what I want to bring about. It's what I'm living for. The obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. I'm writing to you at Rome, to all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints, grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Then he begins to thank them. Thank God for them as he does in many of his letters. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you, always in my prayers, asking that somehow, by God's will, I may now at last succeed in coming to you. …

The Heart of Christianity - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon
Robert Barron, 2026-08-01 · Scripture reading

… there's Mashiach, there's David, the anointed one and declared son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness listen now by resurrection from the dead then the phrase Jesus Christ our Lord there is again Yeshua Mashiach Adonai Jesus Christos Kyrios us. What's the hinge? What's the hinge upon which all this turns? There's that little phrase, by resurrection from the dead. Now, there it is, everybody. That's the heart of Paul's teaching. That's the heart of Christianity. That's, if you want, the gospel. That's the good news that euangelion, Jesus done to death by the powers that be at his time. Everything in the world came at him, but through the power of God raised from the dead, he is anointed one, Christos, Mashiach, and he's Lord, he's Adonai. That's the gospel, everybody. You know, look through Paul's writings, you'll find it's almost like a refrain, almost comically so, so often repeated. Anastasis, anastasis, anastasis. It means literally standing up again. Resurrection, resurrection. It was so central to his preaching that some people thought, oh, he's declaring a new God called anastasis. He was declaring the God of Israel, who has manifested his power in the standing up again, the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. …

… in Christ's resurrection for us. Romans chapter 1 and verse 4 says that he was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead. And so the resurrection of Christ, it is the great testimony, it is the great verdict, it is the great vindication of the Son of God and his righteousness as our Savior. and so friends this should be an encouragement to us because what we see what we come to see is that in his vindication we come to see our justification and we come to share in his righteousness as the catechism says by faith 2 Corinthians 5.21 says a familiar text to us for our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin in order that we might become the righteousness of God. You know, it made me think of the Olympics and how we find ourselves watching all kinds of sports that we really could care less about any other time of the year. …

… Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be, designated to be the Son of God, according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead. Those are two parallel statements, and they compare and contrast Christ on earth, a mere man. He appeared to be a mere man. He came in the likeness of sinful flesh, the most amazing thing that Paul ever said. He wasn't a sinner, but he looked just like one at first glance. God, as it were, compressed and contained in a human nature, a human body, walking about, saying and doing wonderful things, aflesh with all of the weakness of mankind. But then when He was raised from the dead, who He really was was suddenly seen, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. He was designated, declared to be the Son He always was, full of the Father's glory and His majesty. That's what I think is being referenced here, though both translations, both interpretations work. How do you know He was David's son? Look at His birth certificate. …

Everybody Is Somebody

… who was descended from David, the King, according to the flesh, and who, according to the Spirit of holiness, was declared in power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus the Christ, the anointed King, our Lord. Through Him, we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the believing obedience, faithful hearing among all the nations for the sake of His name, that includes you also, you who are called to belong to Jesus, the anointed King. This letter comes to all those in Rome, loved by God and called to be His holy people, grace and peace to you from God, our Father, and from the Lord Jesus, the King. First, I thank my God for all of you through Jesus Christ, because of your faith. Your trust in Him is being reported around the world. God, whom I worship in my spirit through the good news of His Son, God is my witness. How constantly I remember you in all my prayers at all times. I ask God again and again that somehow, at last, in His will, that the way would be open for me to come to you. I long to see you so that I may share some spiritual gift with you, to make you strong. I want to encourage you and be encouraged by you in this faith that we share. I don't want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, how often I have planned to come to you. It's just that until now, something has always gotten in the way. I want to reap a harvest among …
