… Paul wrote to the Romans and said, Oh, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God. How unsearchable are his judgments and unfathomable his ways. So even as far back as the first century, as Paul penned his letter to the Romans, he informed the reader, ultimately us, that God is unfathomable and unsearchable. Doesn't mean he isn't good, and it doesn't mean he stops being loving and merciful. It just means he is also incomprehensible. we're getting in deep. And before we know it, we realize there is a whole lot about God we were never taught. And now, in the midst of our study of Job, we are forced to dig deeper and find out what it is that we were missing. Theologians call him inscrutable. one of the first times I remember that word making a dent in my brain I was graduating from seminary and the president of the school at the time Dr. John Walvard made the comment that he would hope that all of us would continue to remember that our God is unfathomable which means we are unable to fathom his ways and our God is unscrutable then he said with a wry smile so don't try to unscrew the inscrutable first time I'd put the two words together but we so want to everything within us screams to explain and interpret and define fully the workings of God for after all we're intelligent God made us like this he tells us that we are to …
Romans 11 says, Oh, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out. You see, God, not only that He's not asking for our opinion. But every time something happens, we look back and we say, Wow, I could not see that one coming. Of course, it is written. Oh, man. Proverbs 3, trust in the Lord with all your heart, not your YouTube. And lean not on your own social media understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. Ecclesiastic 11 says, As you do not know what is the way of the Lord, or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything. You know, you can be a doctor, professor, you can be whatever. However, you will still not be able to understand the amazing work of God. You see, those who went to space and just came back. …
… for everybody's sake today, okay? He says, oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable his judgments and his paths beyond tracing out. Who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. You know you're singing good when you amen yourself, right? And then verse chapter 12 begins and says, therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship. Do not conform. Here's our verse for the day. So you can now see it in its context. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Most people stop there, but verse three is important. He says, for by the grace given me, I say to every one of you, do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment in according with the faith God has distributed to each of you. …
… This is a verse you should all know by heart. Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God. How unsearchable are his judgments. How inscrutable are his ways. Who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Answer, nobody. Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? Nobody puts God in their debt. For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever and ever. God is great. Third observation, God has revealed himself, his ways, his purposes in his word. Otherwise, we're just jabbering. I look at Christians who don't believe the Bible and still hold on to a little bit of Christianity and I say, you're just making it up. If you leave the book, you're making it up. Those are two choices. You can go with the book and the way God has described himself and his ways, or if you lay the book down and turn away and you come up with ideas to call Christianity, you're just making it up. …
