Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

He's really saying in long form what he would write to the Romans in Romans chapter 13, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its last. And you see, what then happens is that we begin to do everything with gratitude and thankfulness. That's so interesting because thankfulness is one of the signs that you have been delivered from self-absorption, and you've been set free to glory in Jesus Christ. And this is why he ends this passage, well, with some very simple practical counsel, doesn't he? Sometimes you think that the frustrating thing about Paul is he tells you what the situation is but he doesn't give you any practical counsel. That really is nonsense. You just need to stay down with what he's saying. What will help you here is this, that you let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your heart. …
… not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy, but put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh in regards to its lusts. You make no provision for the flesh. Obviously, that's what the philosophers of the Middle Ages wanted to overturn. We make no provision for the flesh. All we want to know is the will of God, and that's what it says in verse 10, trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Christian walks as a child of light, producing the fruit of light, which is goodness, righteousness, truth and is a living example of someone learning what is pleasing to the Lord. That's what it means to walk in light. Look, you are in the light. You can't hide anything. You can't. The Lord knows. He sees. Your determination should be very simple. My life is an open book. I have nothing to hide, because I'm governed by a determination to find out what is pleasing to the Lord and do it. …
… Let us walk properly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy, but put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. This is the gospel in a nutshell, dear friends, and teaching that is vital for our personal growth and sanctification. It is the Word of the Lord for His people. Please be seated. Let us pray. Oh, Lord, how we love Your law, for Your Word is law. It is the light that guides our feet and shines upon our pathway. We thank You that Your law comes to us out of the infinite depth of Your knowledge and wisdom and reflects not only the perfection of Your character, but Your gracious, condescending love for us for which law is given for our blessing and edification. Help us to understand the context of this law in Your love as the Apostle sets it forth herein. For we ask it in the name of Jesus. Amen. …
