… evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for everyone who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. But glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism. All who sin apart from the law will be judged apart from the law. All who sin under the law will be judged under the law. For it's not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it's those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. Indeed, when Gentiles who do not have the law do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves. As they show the requirements of the law are written in their hearts, their conscience is also bearing witness and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them. This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ as my gospel declares. …
… Follow real quickly the argument here, starting at verse 10. So, this judgment, this tribulation and distress for the wicked, glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, which I argued is a category of zero people. But this is talking about the end, judgment, is said to be to the Jew first and also to the Greek. So, just as salvation is the Jew first, also the Greek, so judgment, Jew first, then the Greek, Greek, another word for Gentile here. And then verse 11, God shows no partiality. So, being a Jew, being a Gentile before God on the day of judgment, that is going to be of no consequence. Verse 12, both will perish. If you sin without the law, that is, you're a Gentile and you were not given the Mosaic covenant, you'll perish without it. And those who have sinned under the law, the Jews who received the Mosaic covenant, they're going to be judged by the law verse 13 the jews won't be safe just because they have the law why because it's it doesn't help you to just say i have the law when you didn't do the law i said last week you can't when you get pulled over for going 70 in a 35 don't do that that's really unsafe and you said well officer of course of course i know it's 35 i wrote a dissertation on this street being a 35 mile. Yes, I know. I teach people my whole life this is 35, so I think I'll be going now. …
… There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek. but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law. And all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. I don't want to brag, but when I fly American Airlines, I board in Group 2. Pretty special. Some of you fly even more, and you go in Group 1 or First Class, or I don't even know if I've ever met you. Your picture should be hanging somewhere. If you are concierge key or you're one of the billion-mile frequent flyer travelers, it's always a little bittersweet if you get that next status level because it gives you amazing perks like sitting on the plane longer. …
… There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. The imagery here in this paragraph, and it began in chapter 2, is obviously the imagery of the courtroom. We actually have a fairly good picture of what a typical Roman judicial proceeding might look like because there are lots of them with both the Jews and before the Romans in the New Testament. One of the things that we can fail to realize is though they had Roman soldiers, they didn't have a police force per se. They didn't have the police come and knock on your door or be able to stop you in your chariot and then arrest you and bring you before the judge. It was the responsibility, and I'm glad it's not this way any longer, it was the responsibility of the plaintiff, the one who wanted to press charges to apprehend the defendant and bring him before the tribunal. …
… ordained that you would walk in them. Paul says much the same in Romans 2.6-10 that the final judgment will be a judgment based on works, and the works of one who has been regenerated and given life and been transformed will manifest righteousness, and it is by those works that they will receive the resurrection of life." Again, this speaks to this important issue that salvation is not a matter of some experience at some point in your life, or some prayer, or some emotional connection with Jesus. You will be judged on your works. They don't save you, but they affirm the reality of your salvation. If you are truly transformed as a child of God, it shows. But just think of it. An hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice." The power to do that is stunning, incomprehensible. Taking you back to the creation, in six days the triune God spoke the entire universe and everything into it into existence, everything. …
