… the point here is still the same. Look at verse 7 and 10, these other two instances of glory. to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality. So there's a glory that has been lost, and this is the hope of glory regained. So what ought we to do? We ought to seek for glory, for honor, for immortality. Now, you're hardwired to want glory. You want it on the playing field. You want it in the classroom. You want it with your house. You want it with your appearance. We're hardwired that way. For something bigger than ourselves, we want to be transcendent. We don't want to be forgotten. We want to grasp immortality. But here it says what we should do is we should seek from God that glory, that honor, that immortality. And what do you receive? Eternal life, glory, honor, and peace. Again, the exchange is that instead of seeking the glory of the immortal God, we have transferred it to mortal things. …

Dr. Kevin DeYoung | No Partiality
Kevin DeYoung, 2026-05-12 · Scripture reading

… He will render to each one according to his works. To those who by patience and well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek. but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law. And all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. I don't want to brag, but when I fly American Airlines, I board in Group 2. Pretty special. Some of you fly even more, and you go in Group 1 or First Class, or I don't even know if I've ever met you. …

… He will render to each one according to his works. To those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. The imagery here in this paragraph, and it began in chapter 2, is obviously the imagery of the courtroom. We actually have a fairly good picture of what a typical Roman judicial proceeding might look like because there are lots of them with both the Jews and before the Romans in the New Testament. One of the things that we can fail to realize is though they had Roman soldiers, they didn't have a police force per se. They didn't have the police come and knock on your door or be able to stop you in your chariot and then arrest you and bring you before the judge. It was the responsibility, and I'm glad it's not this way any longer, it was the responsibility of the plaintiff, the one who wanted to press charges to apprehend the defendant and bring him before the tribunal. …

The Resurrection of Everyone (John 5:25-29)
John MacArthur, 2022-04-17

… ordained that you would walk in them. Paul says much the same in Romans 2.6-10 that the final judgment will be a judgment based on works, and the works of one who has been regenerated and given life and been transformed will manifest righteousness, and it is by those works that they will receive the resurrection of life." Again, this speaks to this important issue that salvation is not a matter of some experience at some point in your life, or some prayer, or some emotional connection with Jesus. You will be judged on your works. They don't save you, but they affirm the reality of your salvation. If you are truly transformed as a child of God, it shows. But just think of it. An hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice." The power to do that is stunning, incomprehensible. Taking you back to the creation, in six days the triune God spoke the entire universe and everything into it into existence, everything. …
