Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… No one who understands. No one who seeks God. All have turned away. They have together become worthless. There is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves. Their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Ruin and misery mark their ways. In the way of peace, they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth is silenced. The whole world is held accountable to God. And no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law. Rather, through the law, we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God apart from the law has been made known, to which the law and the prophets testify, and this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. …

Dr. Kevin DeYoung | No, Not One
Kevin DeYoung, 2026-06-30 · Scripture reading

… We have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin. As it is written, none is righteous. No, not one. No one understands. No one seeks for God. All have turned aside. Together they have become worthless. No one does good. Not even one. Their throat is an open grave. They use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. In their paths are ruin and misery. And the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. I had a birthday this past week. I turned 49. My kids said, don't worry, you're not old, you're not 50. So, I got that. It's amazing when you're 35, 49 seems old. Now, 79 seems pretty young to me. 49. And this may not be true for anyone else but me, but I don't always like looking at photos of myself. You're all, yep, all the rest of you are really good looking, so it's all fine for you. But, you know, sometimes as you get older, you swipe those photos, as I do, and I say, I don't like that photo. I don't like that photo. …

… There is no one righteous, not one. No one who understands, no one who seeks God. That's us in our natural condition. In other places, the Bible speaks to our natural condition as spiritually blind, spiritually deaf, spiritually lame, all metaphors for our spiritual inability and deadness. So if we are dead in our sins, something must happen for us to be made alive. As Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3, unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God. That is, you cannot see or embrace the saving rule and reign of God. We must be made alive. Our eyes must be made to come open. Our ears must be unstopped. Our hearts must be regenerated. And that's what the scripture tells us that God does for us by the work of his spirit. Just look back in your bulletin to this morning, Titus chapter 3. We read it. I'll just read verses 5 and 6 it says that God saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness but according to his own mercy by the washing of regeneration and the renewal of the Holy Spirit whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior and so it's the Holy Spirit who regenerates us who raises us up to new life, as it were, giving us faith and repentance as we hear the gospel, which is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe. …

There is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves. Their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Ruin and misery mark their ways in the way of peace. They do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. In other words, all people everywhere are guilty of sin before a holy God. And here's why this point is so important. Because so many times this question is asked, like someone will ask, well, Pastor, what happens to the innocent man or woman or child in this remote part of the world who's never heard the gospel when they die? And if you were to ask me that question, I would say, without question, based on the Bible, those people go to heaven, even though they've never heard the gospel. …

… YOU CANNOT THINK YOUR WAY TO GOD. THERE IS NONE THAT UNDERSTAND THAT THE BIBLE SAYS, NO, NOT ONE. AND THAT'S FOUND IN ROMANS CHAPTER THREE AND VERSE 11. SO FIRST OF ALL, A SHEEP IS DUMB. SECOND THING I WANT YOU TO THINK ABOUT A SHEEP, A SHEEP IS DEPENDENT. THAT'S THE REASON SHEEP NEED SHEPHERD. JESUS SAID He had compassion upon them because they were like a sheep without a shepherd. A sheep without a shepherd, therefore, is going to be destroyed and devoured because he is so dependent. In his book, a shepherd looks at the sheep. Keller tells about a sheep and a condition that a sheep would get in that the English shepherds would call a cast, C-A-S-T, sheep. What would happen is this, that after the sheep would browse, the sheep would lie down, perhaps in a crevice or a hollow place there on the ground where there was a little depression. Maybe he would stretch his legs, and when he would, the center of gravity would shift a little bit, and he would roll slightly on his back. …
