Sermons on Romans 5:12

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death passed to all men because all sinned.Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:—

Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… to whom we have now received reconciliation. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men because all sin, for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but sin is not taken into account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over the nation who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam who was a power over the one to come. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace, and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ overflow to the many. Again, the gift is not like the trespass. The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation. The gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more would those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for For all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. …

… When I get to heaven, me and Adam is going to have some words. Look what Romans 5.12 said. It says when Adam sinned, sin entered the whole world. Adam's sin brought death. So death spread to everyone for everyone's sin. So because of sin, I want you to write down my first real, real point. Everybody has a dysfunctional family Everybody No, I know You think everything is good with your family That's cool But because of sin There is dysfunction In your family And when I look at this You should be excited that I study the word Because as I begin to look at all of the families in the Bible You're in great company Because most families in the Bible Were severely dysfunctional And I'm talking about, I mean, Jerry Springer's summer edition, like crazy dysfunctional, but God still chose to use them. So what I'm telling you right now is everybody's family is dysfunctional. But we got to find out how we can allow these family ties not to control our future, even though they've been tied to us in our past. …

For All In The Family
Jack Hibbs, 2026-09-20

… wow Romans 5 12 therefore just as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin and so death spread to all men or all mankind because all sinned. Romans 6, 23, for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 10, verses 9 through 11, because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the scripture says, everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame. Romans 10, 13. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Make sure that's you. Call upon him today. Standing right now where you're at, you can say, Lord, I'm calling upon you. And the great prophet Isaiah said that if you'll call upon the name of the Lord, you shall be saved. And we try to complicate that. He's convicting you. He's calling you out. …

What to Say to Those Who Are Gay – Part 1
Robert Jeffress, 2026-09-10

… and you trace it all the way back to Adam. Romans 5.12 says, For what through one man, Adam, sin came into the world, and death spread to all men because all sin. We have all inherited the sin virus. And I believe that sin virus manifests itself in different ways in different people. For some people, their genetic link to sin makes them inclined to alcoholism, or to violence, or to adultery, or alcoholism, whatever it is. and I believe quite possibly some people are inclined toward homosexuality. But ladies and gentlemen, the good news of the gospel is regardless of the sin tendency you've inherited, Christ came to die for you so you don't have to stay the same way you are. The Bible says if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. All things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. No matter what you've inherited, no matter what pulls at you, you are not stuck. That's the good news. In Christ, you become a new creation. …

… All sinned, or translated in ESV, all have sinned. The exact same two Greek words, pontes, meaning all, hemarton, sinned, same two Greek words appear again in Romans 5.12. Romans 5.12, Paul says, sin came into the world through one man, death through sin, death spread to all men. because all sinned. Now, clearly in 5.12, he's talking about how all of us sinned in Adam. We'll come back to that in months ahead. All of us sinned in Adam. Now, it's possible that this occasion in 3.23, all have sinned, is just a collective summary of the human race, what all of us have done. We've all sinned, committed sins. But I think it's more than that. I think it's a way of leading us to Romans 5.12, that this is speaking about the sin that each one of us committed in Adam. In Adam's fall, we sinned all. So, the predicament that we're in is not just that we're sinners or we sin, but that we have this sin nature and that in Adam, he's our corporate head, we need a second Adam who will be our corporate head and will succeed where that Adam failed in that first Adam when he sinned. He was our representative. …

… make mistakes in our relationships, with our finances, in our moral lives. We all have this sin virus, Romans 5.12 tells us. It's not a question if we're going to mess up. We are going to mess up. We are going to sin. And so not only are we going to sin and make mistakes, we're going to experience the accompanying reproofs that come with our mistakes, whether it's negative events or whether it's negative words from other people. We shouldn't be surprised that that happens. You know, what's interesting to me is God understands our propensity to make mistakes sometimes better than we do. Psalm 103 verse 14, I love this verse, for God himself knows our frame. He is mindful that we are but dust. We're so surprised when we make a mistake. God's not surprised. He's surprised when we do anything right. Because he knows us. He knows we were formed out of the dust of the ground. He knows we inherited that sin nature. He knows mistakes and the reproofs that come with them are inevitable. …

… because we have all inherited a corrupt nature. In Romans 5 verse 12, Paul says, For through one man, Adam, sin came into the world, and death spread to all men because all men sinned. Every one of us have inherited this proclivity toward immorality, toward sin. we had this corrupt nature the Russian dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn said the line that divides good and evil runs through the heart of every man every one of us is capable because of this inherited corrupt nature but there's a second reason we're all susceptible to this sin and that is because we have an active opponent we have an enemy who has set his sights to destroy every one of us in Ephesians 6 verses 11 and 12 Paul writes, put on the full armor of God that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Listen to what James said in James 1 14, but each one of us is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Now this is key folks to understanding how Satan is going to bring destruction into your life. How are we tempted? When we are first of all carried away. That Greek word alkomai means to be drawn with an inward power. That refers to our corrupt …

… Psalm 51 just as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin and so death spread to all men because all sinned that's you you're dying because you inherited sin and you have sinned all are under sin, none is righteous no, not one we need to linger there for a minute because it has huge implications for providence. This sinfulness of our vaunted self-exaltation, self-sufficiency, self-determination is an infinite moral outrage in the universe because it exchanges the glory of the infinite God for images, pathetic, finite images, and worships the creature rather than the creator. We, by nature, treasure many things more than God, and therefore we have committed an infinite outrage and deserve an infinite punishment that will be meted out on every one of you, either in hell or on the cross. If you're a Christian, what you deserve will go on to Jesus. And if you're not a Christian, what you deserve will go on to you. Therefore, in all the works of providence, God can do you no wrong. …

… Look here in Romans chapter 5, beginning verse 12. Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. For sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. yet death reigned from Adam to Moses even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam who was a type of the one who was to come. So he was a type of the one who was to come. There's another Adam who's going to come. Told you there's two Adams who met here at this meal that night. The first Adam and the second Adam. They meet here. And so in the flesh we have this idea of the representative of the first Adam. but in keeping the covenant of works, satisfying all the righteous requirements of God, we have the second Adam who does not fail, as the first Adam did. …

… through the blood of Christ. That's how he brought us back together. And then he explains it. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, in this way, death came to all people because all sin. To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone's account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death, that's what sin does, reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who do not sin by breaking a command as did Adam. So what he's saying is, is that when Adam and Eve sinned, sin entered into the world and it entered into the lifeline of humanity and everyone who came from Adam and Eve was born into sin. You're like, that doesn't sound very fair. Well, God's going to be more than fair in just a moment. But I always believed that if Adam and Eve didn't sin and I wasn't born into their sin, I would have done a pretty good job of it myself. …

How to Smile at Death
Adrian Rogers

… That's an appointment, my dear friend, that you have. man wants to die. And the same Bible says in Romans chapter 5 and verse 12, wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, so death passed upon all men for that all have sin. The only exception to whether or not you might die is if Jesus comes first. But if Jesus does not come first, you're certainly going to die. There's a new statistic out on death, one out of one people die. Okay? One out of one. It's appointed unto man wants to die. But not only is it a stubborn fact, it's an uncertain fact. You don't know when you're going to die. You see, David said, yea, though I walk through the valley. He's walking through the valley, and he doesn't know from one moment to the next what is going to happen. The psalmist said, there is but a step between me and death. It is a stubborn fact, but it is an uncertain fact. You don't know when you're going to die. I must preach, dear friend, as a dying man would preach to dying men because I don't know, this may be the last sermon I'll ever preach. It may be the last sermon you'll ever hear. Many a time I've preached the last sermon a person has heard before that person died. And so in the book of James, verse 13 and 14, go to now ye that say today or tomorrow, …

Harmony in the Home

… ground for your sake. In sorrow shalt thou eat it of all the days of thy life. And Romans chapter 5, verse 12, when the Bible says that sin came into the world, it doesn't blame Eve, it blames Adam. Romans 5, 12, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin. So death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. The husband is meant to protect his wife. And a wife needs a husband who will protect her. And children need husbands who are protectors. We need husbands who will set limits for children, not drop out dads, but dads who will say to boys and to daughters, that is a no. You may not do that. I don't mean a Tarzan know, but just a no. You can't do that. God made the man to be the leader, and God made the woman to be the enhancer. For example, in Genesis 3 verse 16, God said to the wife, Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. …
