… Offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness, for sin shall not be your master. You are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we're not under law, but under grace? No, don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you're slaves to the one whom you obey, whether you're a slave to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness. But thanks be to God that though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin, and you've become a slave to righteousness. I put this in human terms because you're weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and ever-increasing weakness, so now offer them enslavery to righteousness, leading to holiness. You get my point? But that was the old man. Then I come to Christ, and I didn't immediately have new friends. I still had my same friends. And so they'd be like, all right, let's go sin. And I was like, I don't want to. And they're like, what's the matter with you? I'm like, I don't know. …
… Romans 6, 14, Paul concludes with this final idea. He says, for sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under the law but under grace. If you're in Christ Jesus, I've got great news for you. you can stop chugging the Clorox bottle. Sin isn't your master anymore. Christ is. But don't mistake that language. He's your master. He is your Lord. And here's what's so amazing to me. Because in a world where so many people use their power to abuse people and get what they want, Christ Jesus, the most powerful being in the universe is known and unknown because I don't know, he made them all. He uses his power to do what? To serve you and me that we might receive what we most desperately need, salvation, which is found in him, in him alone. Romans 6.23, for the wages of sin is death. Friends, that's what you earned, that's what I earned. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. …
