For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection;For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;

Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… we too may live a new life. If we've been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him, that the body of sin will be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin, because anyone who's died has been freed from sin. Now, if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, because we know since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again. Death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin. Once for all, the life he lives, he lives to God. So in the same way, count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies so that you obey its evil desires. And do not offer the parts of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life. …

Sticks & Stones | Bishop TD Jakes
T.D. Jakes, 2026-04-05

God forbid. for if we are buried in the likeness of his death we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection and you having quickened who were dead in the trespasses of sin he gave you new life he gave you something that the drug dealer can't give you that your chick on the side can't give you He gave you something that nobody else can give you. And I want you to come. It's a grace space. This is the space that proves that you can't go to heaven and, I mean, go and stand before God and say, I never got a chance. This is your opportunity. There is nothing in your life, on your life, or in your past that God cannot forgive. there is nothing on your mind, no matter how hideous or dark it might be, that the word can't penetrate and change your life. There is nothing, there is nothing that's hindering you. He will roll that stone He will roll that habit. …

Solidarity

baptism into His death so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too would walk in new life. Because if we have been united with Him like this in His death, then we will certainly be united with Him in His resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin would be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be slaves to sin because the one who has died has been set free from sin. Now, if we have died with Christ, we trust that we will also live with Him. Seeing that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again, death no longer has dominion over Him. Because the death He died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God. So also, count yourselves as dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, do not let sin rule over your mortal body to make you obey its passions, and do not offer your limbs, your members to sin as instruments for its unrighteous purposes. …

Totally Transformed (Ephesians 4:17-24)
John MacArthur, 2022-03-13

… Look at verse 4, we have been buried with Christ. And then verse 5, if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection. Again, the language is the language of death and resurrection. It's the language of going out of existence and a new reality coming into existence. If you look at verse 6, in our death, what happened? The old self died, was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with. It's gone. The old self is gone. It's completely gone. verb there. It's done away with, so much so that we would no longer be slaves to sin, for he who has died is freed from sin. So what happened at salvation is a real death in which the body of sin was removed and a real resurrection in which we were raised from the dead to a new self that possesses – listen carefully to this – eternal life, eternal life. …

… dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. If we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him in order that our body of sin might be done away with." Really? The body of sin is done away with? Yeah, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin, for He who has died is freed from sin. So, verse 11, consider yourself to be dead to sin, but alive to God. That ought to show up in how you live, right? I mean, I get it. I understand Romans 7 is there. I mean, we're not perfect, but we are transformed. Puritans used to talk about affections. It's not the perfection, it's the direction and the affection. So, back to Ephesians 4, sorry to be jumping around, but so when Paul says, you don't walk like the Gentiles walk, you don't do that anymore. …
