… going to walk away from it or not? Are you going to give in to it or not? You see? But we're no longer under its power. Romans 6, 7, he who has died has been freed from sin. And that's what happens when I become born again, then I have died to the old ways. I'm to reckon the old man dead. Romans 6, 10, the death that he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life that he lives, he lives to God. Likewise, you also reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus, our Lord. God doesn't want you just living every day to try not to sin. And I know a lot of people live that way. They just wake up and they spend their whole day trying not to sin. Well, the problem is that you keep thinking about the sin and then you're trying not to do it. The better thing is to focus on God. Look, when I was a young man, my dad took me motorcycle riding, and we would be out in the desert, and I would be riding a little motorcycle, and I would see a rock, and I'd be like, Dad, there's a rock, and he'd say, look away from the rock. For the death that he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life that he lives, he lives to God. Likewise, you also reckon or consider yourself to be dead to sin. Okay, ponder that verse with me for a minute. Likewise, in the same way, what has he done? He's just established the death, the resurrection of Christ. and then he says consistent with your faith that this is true believe you are dead to sin the same faith that you have for the death and resurrection of Christ let that be the standard for your faith that you are dead to sin Now, there are so many self-help books. In fact, if you want to write a bestseller, just write a self-help book. …

We Are Never Getting Back Together
Levi Lusko, 2025-08-18

… sin might be done away with, so we should no longer be slaves of sin, just having to do whatever the devil says. Verse 7, for he who has died has been freed from sin, so you're no longer under sin's mastery. Then in verse 11, so likewise reckon yourselves dead also to sin, dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Important delineation. He's not saying that once you're saved, you're not able to sin. He's saying once you're saved, you're able not to sin. That's the new way open. Do you see the distinction? He's not saying, well, now I'm saved, so I'm not able to sin anymore. He's saying, now that I'm saved, I'm able not to sin. I can choose to say instead, I'm going to follow Christ in this moment. I'm going to resist the devil. And according to the book of James, he will flee from me, just like he did when Jesus resisted him based on the approval of the Father, the power of the Spirit, and the authority of the Word of God. …
