… Right now, he's interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it's written, for your sake we face death all day long. We're considered like sheep to be slaughtered. He says, no, in all these things we're more than conquerors through him who loved us. We're convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, nor the present nor the future, nor any powers, nor heights nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. That's gospel. That's good news. Don't miss the bottom line. You want to know how good this gospel is? This gospel is good enough to throw yourself into hell so that other people can have it. which is why Paul says right after that triumphant chapter 8 chapter 9 verse 1 I'm speaking the truth in Christ I'm not lying my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart for I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. …

Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… is at the right hand of God, interceding for us right now. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble, or hardship, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it's written, for your sake we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that's in Christ Jesus our Lord. There's nothing like this word. Isaiah 55, God says, listen to my word and live. God forgive us for the hours we're spending on our scrolling on our phones filling our minds the drivel of this world God we repent make us people who tremble at your word, oh God. We just love your word. …

Take a Risk for Life and Fruitfulness
John Piper, 2026-09-05

… here's the answer from Romans 8. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? As it is written, we are being killed all day long. We are counted as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things, in all these things, We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Which means amazingly that because God takes all that, tribulation and distress and persecution and famine and nakedness and peril and sword, he takes all of that and makes us super conquerors more than conquerors. You can't risk ether. Well, that's not quite right. You got to be more careful. Yes, you can in this life. ultimately no Christian takes a risk. It's going to turn out well. It's going to turn out wonderful no matter what happens here. And I just love it that in the brochure you have there in front of you I read I had this online a few weeks ago. …

… passage, which again is rhetorically so beautiful, poetic even. Paul says, What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or the sword? Boy, he's saying a mouthful there, isn't he? Go through these. These are all things in his time and ours that would tempt us to say, there is no God. There's no God that cares for me. There's no God of love who's looking out for me. Anguish or distress, I mean, we live, W.H. Auden said that, in the age of anxiety, don't we? Well, Paul knew about anguish too, but I think especially in our time, this sort of existential angst a lot of people feel, this sense of meaninglessness, purposelessness. Well, that can seem to separate us from God. How about persecution? You know, there are milder forms of persecution that exist even in our Western culture, but gosh, go around the world today. Can I suggest in the Middle East? Can I suggest in places like Nigeria? Can I suggest in places like China? Is there a direct and violent persecution of Christians? You bet there is. So as Paul sensed it in his own life, we still sense it today. …

… to live is Christ and to die is gain. So make my day. Let me live or take my life. You cannot stop me. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? As it is written, we are being killed all day long. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. So how does that work? We are being killed all day long. We are more than conquerors. Here's the way Jesus said that, I think. Jesus said in Luke 21 16, some of you they will put to death. but not a hair of your head will perish. The Bible talks that way, doesn't it? That's strange. Some of you they will put to death. That's true of those in this room. and not a hair of your head will perish. Doesn't that mean at least in God's meticulous providence over your life, he is so attentive and so mightily and particularly careful with your life, no matter what happens to you, he's watching so closely as the hairs of your head are numbered that nothing can happen to you apart from his sovereign good purposes for your life because to live is Christ and to die is gain. You can't be defeated if God is meticulously sovereign. …

The Triumph of Divine Love (Romans 8:31-39)
John MacArthur, 2024-01-28

… you to turn in your Bible to Romans chapter 8. It's a great chapter, but we're going to look particularly at verses 31 to 39, Romans 8, verses 31 to 39. And I'll read that for you just so you have it in mind. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies. Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword, as it is written, for your sake we are being put to death all day long. …

… redemption by His own blood entered into the Holy of Holies and intercedes for us. Somebody might come along and separate us from the love of Christ, verse 35. No. Will tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? No, none of those will. Verse 37. In all these things, we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. We conquer because He He loved us enough to be certain that we could never be conquered. So I'm convinced, says Paul, that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor things present nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The Father loves us, and the Father gave His Son. The Son paid the sacrifice. The Son intercedes. The Son secures our eternity. The church is the church, and the church that was elect and called and justified will be glorified. …

… is also risen, so that even at the right hand, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us, who shall separate us from the love of Christ, shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword, as it is written, for your sake, we are killed all day long. We are counted as sheep for the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. an extraordinary portion of scripture. I want us to walk through these verses, but I want to first just declare something over you. All of this is about the love of God. All of this, all, all of this, the resurrection, the fact that he made us members of one another, that he gave us the promise of eternity. All of this is about the demonstration, the experience, the realization of the love of God in our lives. We sing songs and make declarations like, it's all about you and it's right. We talk about worshiping for the audience of one. It's an appropriate response. …

… CANNOT SEPARATE A MAN WHOSE LIFE IS BUILT ON THE ROCK. ROMANS 8, VERSES 35 AND FOLLOWING, WHO SHALL SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST? SHALL TRIBULATION OR DISTRESS OR PERSECUTION OR FAMINE OR NAKEDNESS OR PERIL OR SWORD? AS IT IS WRITTEN, FOR THY SAKE WE'RE KILLED ALL THE DAY LONG, WE'RE COUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE, FOR THE SLAUGHTER. NAY, IN ALL THESE THINGS, NOT IN THE ABSENCE OF THESE THINGS, BUT IN ALL OF THESE THINGS, IN THE EYE OF THE STORM, WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH HIM THAT LOVED US. AND DIFFICULTY IN YOUR LIFE DOES NOT MEAN THAT GOD HAS ABANDONED YOU. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT. HE HAS SAID, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU, NOR forsake you. Hebrews 13 verses 5 and 6. What am I saying? You must erect, you must erect, my dear friend, a very stable, a very secure, a very strong building. You must do that. And then you must expect a stormy blast. And THEN YOU CAN EXPERIENCE THE STEADFAST BLESSING. NOTICE AGAIN WHAT JESUS SAYS. JESUS SAYS HERE IN, IN VERSE 24, AND WHOSOEVER HEARTH THESE SAYINGS OF MINE AND DOETH THEM, I WILL LIKEN HIM UNTO A WISE MAN WHICH BUILT HIS HOUSE UPON A ROCK. AND THE RAIN DESCENDED, AND THE FLOODS CAME, AND THE WINDS BLEW AND BEAT UPON THAT HOUSE. LUKE SAYS IT BEAT VEHEMENTLY UPON THE HOUSE, BUT IT FELL NOT FOR IT WAS FOUNDED UPON A ROCK. WHY DO SOME PEOPLE FOLD UP? WHY DO SOME PEOPLE …
