… nor the present nor the future, nor any powers, nor heights nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. That's gospel. That's good news. Don't miss the bottom line. You want to know how good this gospel is? This gospel is good enough to throw yourself into hell so that other people can have it. which is why Paul says right after that triumphant chapter 8 chapter 9 verse 1 I'm speaking the truth in Christ I'm not lying my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart for I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ who is God over all, blessed forever. …
… neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that's in Christ Jesus our Lord. There's nothing like this word. Isaiah 55, God says, listen to my word and live. God forgive us for the hours we're spending on our scrolling on our phones filling our minds the drivel of this world God we repent make us people who tremble at your word, oh God. We just love your word. God, forgive us. Forgive us for creating a whole picture where Bible reading feels obligatory. Something I should do. Instead of something we run to do to hear from you. Thank you. God, make us a people who are humble and contrite in spirit. Tremble at your word. And we beg as people who see you. in your word, in ways that lead us to our faces, to throw our hands in the air. God, open our eyes to our sin as we read your word. …
… neither the present nor the future, nor any powers nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The best news you can imagine, nothing, not your doubts and not your struggles and not your worst day and not your past and not even death can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. So let's settle some things today. We've covered a lot of ground and I didn't say anything dumb in that one question. We all got through it. If there's some area of your life that you recognize, maybe you're settling for less than what we call wholehearted devotion to God. Let's talk to God about it. If it's sexually, you're maybe asking like, what can I get away with? Instead of how can I honor him with sexual integrity and purity? Financially, if you're saying like, what's the least that I can do? Instead of God, how generous can I be? …
… and they killed themselves. I think of this verse in Romans 8. Who shall separate us from the love of God? Shall tribulation or distress, persecution or famine, nakedness or peril or sword? For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. now don't hear that and go oh well i've been feeling pretty low lately so no no we need you around discover your purpose work through the brokenness and the pain we need to hear from you we need to learn from you we want to learn from you if you're a broken person you're more valuable you have a testimony and you will not be ending the pain. You might for yourself, but you will not be ending it. You will just transfer a legacy onto others that is very difficult to live with. …
… depth I'm gonna start comparing this thing to stuff that's abstract because I need you to know there is nothing in all of creation that will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus why is that important pastor Mike because my position with God allows me to say that if God is for me, there's not a who. I don't want you to leave this year and think that there is some external thing that can stop you this year. The only thing that can stop you this year is my third point, you. yeah yeah you are the only who that can stop you and this is beautiful because god gives us a beautiful picture he says if i before you who externally can be against you but then he gives us will and gives us the ability to close our heart to him and he gives us the choice to listen and obey or to do our own thing and I came to tell you see because some of you thought that this message is about you can't stop me ain't none of my haters stopping me ain't nobody stopping me no no no they can't because if God is for you who can be against you except you and i want you to get as we go into 2018 that we're not talking about anybody else stopping you we're talking about ourselves stopping us see when i say you can't stop me i'm talking to me i'm talking to the michael who's lazy …
… am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, whatever kind of storm comes, nor height, depth, any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. If that don't make you shout, I don't know what it's going to take. Shout, he's praying for me, and I'm going to keep the faith. Shout, he's coming for me. Nothing can separate me from the love of God. This trial, this storm can't separate me from the love of God. it reaches to the lowest valley. It reaches to the highest mountain. And lastly, if you're in a storm and you're a believer and you're doing your best to serve the Lord, he's praying for you. I can't hardly get past that. My best friend is praying for me. He's not only praying for you, that you just keep the faith. Just keep the faith. Just keep the faith. …
… God said you're more than a conqueror. God said nothing in all creation will be able to separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. I know that's God's will because that's God's word. I want to pray for those today who have been paralyzed by some decisions, and you've been letting the details that you don't have distract you from the things that you know to do. Raise your hand if that's you. I've been so distracted and so stressed about what I don't know that I haven't been putting. Raise your hand if that's you. Raise your hand. Raise it boldly. Father, in Jesus' name, your sheep know your voice. I pray that this week there's going to be clarity in their spirit. They're going to maybe not know what the next 10 steps are, but they will know what the next one is, and they'll know who's with them. I thank you, God, that we're walking in the confidence of a God who never stops carrying us. …
… God has way more mercy than we have mess. This is exactly what Paul gets to, as he says in Romans 8, verses 38 and 39, for I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Oh, you ought to give thanks to a God that even when we try to let go and do our own thing, squeezes us tighter. He's faithful even when we are faithless. Those are wonderful things to say thank you for. Let me close with this story. There's a guy by the name of Eddie Rickenbacker. It's a shame that name probably doesn't resonate with you. Eddie Rickenbacker, legendary pilot in World War I, won all kinds of awards. Later on in life, he would go on to start an airline called Eastern Airlines. It's now gone defunct. But in World War II, General Douglas MacArthur had invited Eddie Rickenbacker to come over to the South Pacific and to encourage the troops. By this time, Eddie Rickenbacker was way too old to actually fight in combat. And so he comes over, he's flying over there, and on his way over there, his plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean. …
… nothing anyplace in life or death or the spiritual realm or in time or the future or in space from top to bottom, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. George Matheson wrote back in 1882, when he went blind and he was engaged, and his fiancée finding out he was blind decided to call off the marriage. That's when he wrote that wonderful song, O Love That Will Not Let Me Go. And the sentiment behind that song was Jeremiah 31.3, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Is that good news? He will not let us go, and we will not let Him go. You say, whoa, wait a minute. I know a guy who believed and walked away. First John tells us, they They went out from us because they were not of us. Father, we are so undeserving of such a love, so grateful for it. We should be literally in a spiritual euphoria every day of our lives to think that You love us like this. …
… you to turn in your Bible to Romans chapter 8. It's a great chapter, but we're going to look particularly at verses 31 to 39, Romans 8, verses 31 to 39. And I'll read that for you just so you have it in mind. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies. Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword, as it is written, for your sake we are being put to death all day long. …
So I'm convinced, says Paul, that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor things present nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The Father loves us, and the Father gave His Son. The Son paid the sacrifice. The Son intercedes. The Son secures our eternity. The church is the church, and the church that was elect and called and justified will be glorified. The Lord is moving in His church in undiminished devotion, sympathy, and love to secure His people forever through all their dangers, sorrows, trials, and temptations. He knows what they are because He was exposed to them Himself. And as John continues to look, he looks from first of all looking at clothing in verse 13 to the person, the Son of Man. And he sees this in verse 14, His head and His hair were white like white, wool like snow. …
… That's Romans chapter 8. What can separate us from the love of God? That's Romans chapter 8. For I am persuaded that neither life nor death nor angels nor principalities nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God. That's Romans chapter 8. if God be for us, who can be against us? That's Romans chapter 8. And I am persuaded that in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us. You know where that is? That's Romans chapter 8. As a matter of fact, that's a good title for this series, more than conquerors. And for the next few weeks, I want to walk you through Romans chapter 8 in the hope that it will help your faith. It will strengthen your resolve to hold to God's unchanging hand. It'll help you make sense of what you see in the world. And it will remind you that no matter what comes our way, we are more than conquerors. …
… these things we are more than conquerors. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. an extraordinary portion of scripture. I want us to walk through these verses, but I want to first just declare something over you. All of this is about the love of God. All of this, all, all of this, the resurrection, the fact that he made us members of one another, that he gave us the promise of eternity. All of this is about the demonstration, the experience, the realization of the love of God in our lives. We sing songs and make declarations like, it's all about you and it's right. We talk about worshiping for the audience of one. It's an appropriate response. But it might be interesting to know that he says, it's all about you. …
That's why Paul would say, what can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus? And then he started to run the list because I am persuaded that life can't do it. Death can't do it. Sickness can't do it. Demons can't do it. Devils can't do it. Problems can't do it. Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. He fixes my continuity problem, but Jesus also fixes my clarity problem. You see, I don't always get it right. So God decides to come and show me who God is in Jesus Christ. Apollo says that the Son is the exact representation of God. Let me give you a millennial translation. You're going to like this. Jesus is God's selfie. that when God takes a picture of God's self, God sends it to you in Jesus. That's why John says, in the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God. Matter of fact, the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory as of the only begotten of the Father, that when we see Jesus, we see God clearly. …
