54 and the word that I have for you today. So without further ado, let's get into some prayer. I'm so very excited. All right. So dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day. I thank you for watching, notice, and keeping us. Continue to bless us and lead us in the right direction in life. In Jesus' name I pray, amen. Okay, so for the verse or basically the text that I'm going to be coming from, I'm going to be coming from John 16, verse 33. John 16, verse 33. And for me, since I like to get a little bit deeper into what I'm saying, I'm going to be reading from King James and also the New International Version. So here's the King James Version. So it goes, These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. So that's the King James Version.
52 Now let's get into the New International Version. So in the New International Version it says, I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world. So basically what I want to really talk about, I really want to get into a motivational piece, if that makes sense. I really want to get into a very intimate spot with you because in this text it says a lot. And the first thing it says in this text is that I have spoken. God, let me give you a little background of this text. This text is basically Jesus is telling his disciples that I'm finna get crucified and this is kind of the game plan. This is what I need you to do. So what I'm telling you today is that God has spoken. There's a lot of things going on in this society, ladies and gentlemen, where there's the atrocities that are happening with our people, where there's things even in our religious institutions that are coming up with our mental health, whether it's school with this pandemic, the politics that's going on, and we have to be able to stand root and that God is speaking to us. God has told us and he has told us that through me, you may have peace. What does that mean? That through him, if we follow in his direction, if we keep on, you know, being a good shepherd, being a good Christian, a real Christian, if we keep on following in the Word of God, if we keep on looking into our text, that it doesn't matter what type of earthly things trying to come into our life. Amen. It doesn't matter what any type of demons are trying to intersect our blessings because guess what? Through him, I may have peace. So therefore, I can rest. I can rejuvenate. I can be of good cheer because through him I can have peace and a sound mind. And then at the latter part of the text, in the end of the text, it says, I have overcome the world. A lot of things are going on, as I previously stated, and we may not have the answers. This is a global pandemic.
58 This is nothing that we have ever seen before. Neither our grandfathers, our great-grandparents, nobody. So we're in a place to where we're having to adapt. We're not able to see face to face. We have to look through a digital screen. We have to go through all of these. We have to stand six feet to where we will go into the area. We can be able to hug. We can be able to adapt up, lock hands. We can't do that. We have to be distant. But guess what? I have already overcame the world, overcome the world. So through that, we can understand and we can walk in that whatever we have to go through, whether we've seen it or not, God has already overcome. So our main topics, our main points that we're going to talk today is four points. The first one is overcome. So God has already said that I have overcome the world. So for us as Christians, we have to overcome what we're going through. Whether you're young or old, whether it be your mental state, your physical state, your physical state, what we can do and what we have to do, we have to overcome. I use this example of hurdles and track. Whenever you're running, whenever you're getting up for the block, you take off and you hit that first hurdle. You overcome that first hurdle. But after you do that, after you go through the racism, after you go through the oppression, after you go through the suicidal thoughts, after you go through the anger, after you go through the idle mind, you have to achieve. You have to keep going because realistically, there's going to be more hurdles and they may be bigger. Sometimes they may be stronger. Sometimes they may be steeper, longer, But guess what? You have to be able to achieve and be able to keep going, not to stop.
37 So when you're hitting that first hurdle, okay, I got over my depressive state. I got over my parents walking out on me in life. I got over the things that are going on. And it may take some time, but guess what I'm saying? You're going to overcome that because guess what? God has already overcame the world. So even me being a Christian and being like his image and me being a part of greatness, I can already overcome and I can achieve what I need to do. I can achieve what I want in life. And then with that, it comes power. What does that mean? So you overcame. You achieved. Now we have to have power. We have to keep going. We have to keep the drive coming because it takes power. It takes resilience to hop over that first hurdle, to hop over that second hurdle. But guess what? There's going to be a final stretch and you have to have the power in your faith.
32 Amen. You have to have the power that our Lord Jesus Christ has to keep on going. We're already in his image. So we have to tap into that potential. We have to tap into that new way of thinking, to that new mindset, to our new adaptation. We're not able to see face to face. Amen. We have to go through this new pandemic that nobody else has seen before. So we have to have that power. We have to have that initiative, that drive, whether it's the atrocities that are happening to us as a people. We have to overcome, achieve, and we have to have the power to stand strong in what we believe in. Amen. We have to have the power to say, guess what? I'm a part of friendship with us. I'm a Christian. So when I go into the battlefield, I won't get fatigued because I have power with our voice. We have power through God because he has already overcame. He's already bared that cross for us. Amen.
24 He's already taken on anything that we could imagine. He already knew about coronavirus before there was even a thing called coronavirus. You understand? He's already known about racism before there was a thing called racism. Amen. He's already overcame everything. So guess what? We can achieve and we can have that power. You feel what I'm saying? And the last thing is we can motivate. What does that mean? So we already overcame. We jumped over those hurdles. We've achieved. We've gained power. Now we've got to motivate because it can't just be me. It can't just be Pastor McGruder. Amen. It just can't be our senior pastor, Pastor Freddie Haynes. It can't just be us in this area and Friendship West. We've got to keep going. We've got to get outside of Texas. We've got to get outside of this country because guess what? The things that we're going through is everywhere. The things that we go through in our mind, I can use myself as an example. For me and my testimony, it's depression. I battle with it. And I know I'm not the only one, especially as a young man trying to navigate this world and navigate what we have to go through, through things that I have never seen before, that my parents have never seen before.
30 having to be able to stand strong and achieve and have power in what I have to say and what I have to do. I guess what? I have to motivate. I have to. It can't just be just me. I can't just be happy. And my other brothers and sisters are in pain. My other forefathers are in pain. The things that we are facing that aren't even talked about. My grandfather told me personally, he said that, you want to know, grandson? The only thing that's different between racism then and now, y'all have cameras and we didn't. So now it's being able to be seen or being able to be heard. But guess what? We got to motivate. We got to educate. We got to keep going. We got to stand on what God has placed in our heart because guess what? He didn't just give us this message for nothing. He didn't give our pastor this message for nothing to preach and to speak on injustice. Because a lot of times we just hear the basic. We just get, oh, be a good Christian.
25 You know, it's going to be okay and everything. But you're facing battle after battle after battle, pain after pain, atrocity after atrocity every single day. So we need somebody like our pastor, amen, to be able to stand firm and have the power to be able to speak on what's really going on. But guess what? He can't do it by himself. He can't do that. Pastor Magruder, with the youth, I'm specifically speaking with the youth, amen. It can't just be Pastor Magruder by himself. It can't just be Miss Juanita by herself. It can't just be Miss Michelle, amen? It can't be Reverend T. It can't be Reverend Heidi. It can't be us by ourselves. We got to keep going. We already have this communication. We have things that our grandfathers and our mothers haven't ever seen before. We have Instagram. We have Snapchat. We have Twitter. We have Facebook.
18 We know how to use all of these different outlets. So instead of promoting things that will damage us, that show us as weak, that show us as something that we're not, let's promote power. Let's promote being able to achieve overcoming our testimonies that we have. Because I know, especially for the young men, I know I'm not the only one that's facing depression. I know I'm not the only one. Just a month ago, I didn't know where I was going to be. I had suicidal thoughts. I had suicidal tendencies. I know that when I was by myself and I had a knife to my stomach, I didn't know what I was going to do. I didn't know. I know I'm not the only one that when I was calling out to God that I didn't hear, that I didn't think that he was listening. But guess what? He is. He's already overcame. He's already achieved. And since we are made in his image, we can do just that. So any demon, any form of depression, anxiety, anger, stress, sadness, loathing, any sense of greed, I cast all that out in the name of Jesus.
26 I cast anything that is ungodly and isn't like God, an achiever, an overcomer, a person that can stand in the midst of adversity, die, rise on the third day, and continue to walk and do blessings to this day. I cast them out. Anything that isn't like God. Amen. So what I want us to do, and I'm here to wrap up, what we're going to do is we're going to first, we're going to overcome. We're going to achieve. we're also going to invoke power because it just can't stay in this room ladies and gentlemen it can't just stay on your ipad or your laptop or your phone it has to go outside of that and then we have to motivate we can't let what moses what david all these people that we read about in the bible even things that excuse me that have happened here recently we can't just let things of rosa parks malcolm x we can't let those people and what they did die and in vain amen we have to keep going. We can't let the light dim because it's in somebody else's eyes. We have to keep on going and we have to keep on motivating each other. Amen. We have to get out of this crab bucket mentality because guess what? If we continue to pull each other down, we'll never get to where we need to be. So I leave you with this. We're going to get in a word of prayer. Amen.
43 We're going to pray. So bow your heads and close your eyes. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day. I thank you for this opportunity to be able to speak to my brothers and sisters in Christ, Lord God. Father God, I pray that anything that isn't like you, Lord God, I cast it out and I send it all the way to the depths of hell. I don't ever want to see it again. Anytime that somebody's walking, whether it's a church, whether it's a school, whether it's a home, whether it's a job, that people are reminded that you have angels in front of you, behind you, on the left, on the right, north, south, east, and west, up and down, that you are covered from head to toe with the blood of Jesus so that anything that tries to come in, it cannot because it is already overcame and we have already set a standard, Lord God. I pray for my people, Lord God.
38 I pray for us as African Americans, Lord God, that when we are going through this system of oppression, this justice system, Lord God, that I pray that we are able to still be able to achieve and show our power, Lord God. All lives matter, but black lives matter too, Lord God. And I thank you for giving me this word and being able to preach and be able to speak to my people today, whether it's friendship with or without, Lord God. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
