You can’t Talk to Me

1:16 For years I have come to the first chapter of the book of Mark and sat silently on tippy-toe in solemn reflection trying to wrap my mind around this particular chapter. And I must tell you as we start this conversation that this is one of the great chapters of the Bible. Time does not permit me to give you a full perusal of what is contained therein, but let me assure you, my friends, that this chapter reveals to us the manifold genius of the power of Jesus Christ. One cannot come to this chapter and not have an understanding of who Jesus is beyond the provincial limits of religion and state-sanctioned, industrialized spirituality. Because in this chapter, Jesus shows us that in order to be successful in anything, you have to be willing to take authority over the demonic.

2:19 Slap somebody and tell them, I know that's right. In this chapter, Jesus reminds us that healing is the children's bread. And in this chapter, he shows us emphatically that God wants you to be healed more than God wants you to be successful.

2:42 Church folks don't want to hear that. Success is an American value, but healing is the will of God for your life. What good is it to be successful if you can't sleep at night? what good is it to have a lot of money and you can't stand the people in your house what good is it to have on nice clothes and you have on nice shoes and you drive nice and you live nice but you're plagued by anxiety and fear and worry and under attack every day of your life God wants you to be healed and not just successful slap somebody and tell them I know that's right yeah it's interesting brothers and sisters because I came to tell somebody before you get anything else you better get healed I said before you get anything else you better get healed I'm gonna say it till your spirit wake up before you get anything else you better get healed you better let God reach into the cracks and crevices and the resources of your mind and to have God do extraordinary everything. I came to tell somebody that God wants you to be better, delivered, restored, transformed, renewed, resurrected. God wants you to wake up in the morning and feel so good you forget about what happened 20 years ago in your life. God wants you to feel so good about yourself that you can show up with people that hurt you and you can look at them in the face and say the same God that blessed you. It's the same God.

That's why you jump in their face. that's why you won't put up with their foolishness because when you love somebody you love them until love can find them and make them whole again can I get a praise on that slap somebody and say I know that's right Jesus is not going to see misery and do nothing about it he's too interested and too invested in you and the one thing you never have to worry about is the experience of Jesus walking away when you need him the most this entire chapter is about representation It is a biopsy into the compassion of Jesus Christ.

8:19 And so, brothers and sisters, I find it interesting that after a long day of dealing with sick people, Jesus comes to the end of the day, and he is still changing people's lives. He started in the morning in the temple, and the devil, a demon was in the temple. And he started in the morning, he had to deal with the devil in the temple. he started in the morning and he had to deal with a devil in the temple he started in the morning he had to deal with a devil in the temple because you do know that the devil comes to church too slap somebody and tell them I know that's right one of the biggest problems we have are demons and devils in the temple he started in the morning he had to deal with a devil in the temple and then by the time he got to the afternoon he had to heal Peter's mother. And you would think that by all of this healing, all of this demonic attack, that Jesus would be depleted and tired, that he would be frustrated, that he would need some time for a sabbatical and some respite and some time just to spend time with time and time to spend time with time as he spent time with himself.

9:24 But the verse tells us that even at the end of the day, Jesus is still working miracles. Oh, God. Oh, God. And I know we live in a world where they don't believe in miracles anymore. I know we live in a world where they don't believe in miracles, but some of us can say it took a miracle to get me here this morning.

9:49 If it were not for the goodness and the mercy of God, we would not be able to be here and to be who we are. Don't let the car somebody drives fool you. Don't let the shoes they got on fool you. everything that you own is a result of the miracles of God making themselves manifest in your life. If God had not worked a miracle, you would not have what you have. That's why I can't stand church folks. They want to sit up in here like they're doing us a favor. You ain't doing nobody a favor, honey. God's been good to you. and every chance you get, you ought to clap your hands and throw your head back and give God a shout in this. How many can say I didn't have the credit?

Because he knows that the more you open your mouth, the more you open your mouth and the more you create a sonic theological experience, that you create a double entendre. What is a double entendre? And I have to give you this because this is going to change somebody's perspective. the sick and the demons came to him at evening time right when the sun was setting. That's when the possessed came to him for healing. They came for healing not in the morning, not in the afternoon, not in the midnight hour, but at evening time. They came looking for a miracle. It is interesting because whenever I read this passage I have to ask myself, why is the writer telling me this? and then it dawned on me some miracles can only happen after the sun goes down. Some things can only happen behind closed doors. Sometimes God has to heal you in the dark because if people knew what you were struggling with they would never let you live it down.

15:40 So God will not do the miracle in the day or in the light. He'll wait until the sun goes down so that nobody can see what you were carrying. If the people in your past knew what you were really dealing with, they would probably try to hold you hostage for the rest of your life. Tell somebody, I know that's right. Because some folks liked you better when they could control you and some folks liked you better when you were a slave and they liked you better when they could manipulate you. And the problem is not that you've changed. The problem is that you're free and you refuse to be a slave. Yeah, there's some people in this church. If they knew your business, they would hold it against you. They clapping right next to you now, but if they knew your real story, they'd be whispering and gossiping and talking about you on TikTok and Instagram.
