… first before God. 1 Corinthians 3, verse 16 and 17, just a couple of chapters before this, talks about how the people of God are the temple of God. And Paul is saying, you're the temple of God and you're not guarding the holiness of that temple. All throughout the Old Testament, you didn't let idols hang out in the temple. You cleansed the temple. In the same way, now you're the temple. You do not let impurity reign in the temple. and you're accountable before God for that. But not just accountable for God. Church members are accountable for each other. This is the point of 1 Corinthians 5. The church, the body of believers, the church is responsible for the sin of its members. Did you catch that? The church, the body of believers, is responsible before God for the sin of its members. We do not think this way. We think of sin. Think about sin individualistically, don't we? We think, well, that's that brother's problem. That's that sister's struggle. …
… How is that possible? 1 Corinthians 3.16 says, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit dwells within you? what changes are you making in your own life to repair the damages that some of you have countered over the years and over the last few decades? Don't get it twisted about the story of Jehoiada, the priest, and King Joash. when King Joash asked the priest to repair the temple and he did not listen. We have to remember that they were allies, not enemies. And can I go a step further? if it was not for Jehoiada, the priest, Joash wouldn't have been king of Judah. Matter of fact, Jehoiada, the priest, protected Joash when he was a little boy from being killed at the liab, who was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. And he was the one that called the nation to gather around and to accept one king. So King Joash literally owed Jehoiada the priest his life. …
… What does he say? 1 Corinthians 3.16, you are God's temple. You are the body of Christ. That's why he got so mad in 1 Corinthians, because he says, you guys, some of you are getting drunk. There are people that are coming getting drunk. There's other people coming to the food, which are going to have food, and they're just, you know, just eating and not even recognizing, man, some people are actually poor and don't even have food. Meanwhile, you're just stuffing yourself. You're not recognizing the body. And right before he took that first Lord's Supper, right before he died, you know the picture of Michelangelo? The whole, was it Michelangelo? Da Vinci. Yeah, they were friends. And I'm not into art at all. Okay. I mean, we jogged through the Sistine Chapel when we went. It was like, ah, boring. Anyways, so Da Vinci, I knew he was one of the turtles. So the whole idea was when he took of that Lord's Supper, the first one, right before he did that, he washed the disciples' feet, right, in John 13. …
… do it why because this is something that is sacred what is my point in all of everything i just said is this. 1 Corinthians 3, verse 16. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. for God's temple is holy and you are that temple. This is the word of God. I'm going to read it again. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy and you are that temple. we talked about what is sacred, what is holy, and God says, you want to know what's holy? You are. You are this temple. The Bible says when you got saved, you became like a living stone stacking on top of the other stones, building one temple that is a dwelling place for God. He says it's built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, and Jesus Christ himself is the cornerstone. …
… One of the thoughts that came to mind was... 1 Corinthians 3, verse 16, where it says, Do you not know that you, plural, are God's temple, and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him, for God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. here are some of the thoughts that came to my mind as I pictured that temple in the old testament and the glory of God filling the temple and everyone just on their faces worshiping God and God are you kidding me could you imagine if we were there together and we're just looking at each other. What just happened? So much fear, but so much excitement. Like, I'm not going in there. I'm not getting close to it. This is as close as it gets. This is amazing. Could you imagine? But the thought even enter your mind at that moment to grab a sledgehammer and just start hitting the temple. at that holy sacred moment and yet what does the bible say in the new testament do you not know that you are god's temple and that god's spirit dwells in you if anyone destroys god's temple god will destroy him for god's temple is holy and you are that temple there's a mystery we can do that. …
… The world looked on and goes, look at that group of people. You are a temple of God. You you but you plural I mean that that passage in in 1 Corinthians, 1 Corinthians 3.16 says, do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? But you've got to understand the word here for you is the plural. Okay, it's not singular you. here in first first corinthians 3 16 it's it's better you know like it's it's better said y'all okay you got some southerners here okay but you guys use that when you're by yourself so um but y'all in the truest sense like more than one that's really what that verse says is do y'all not know that all y'all Thank you. are God's temple singular. You get that? He goes, do you understand that all y'all are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in y'all? Okay? And that's the picture in scripture is of this singular temple and this oneness. …
