As Through Fire

… and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him because God's temple is holy and you all are that temple. Don't let anyone among you deceive himself. If anyone thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so as to become truly wise because the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God As it is written, God catches the wise in their cleverness. And again, the Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile. So no more boasting in men, because all things are yours. Whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future, everything already belongs to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. 1 Corinthians chapter 3. There is a rising feeling that our world is on the brink of something cataclysmic. The Apostle Paul, repeating the warnings of the Lord Jesus before him, confirms that the day is coming. …

… first before God. 1 Corinthians 3, verse 16 and 17, just a couple of chapters before this, talks about how the people of God are the temple of God. And Paul is saying, you're the temple of God and you're not guarding the holiness of that temple. All throughout the Old Testament, you didn't let idols hang out in the temple. You cleansed the temple. In the same way, now you're the temple. You do not let impurity reign in the temple. and you're accountable before God for that. But not just accountable for God. … is this. 1 Corinthians 3, verse 16. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. for God's temple is holy and you are that temple. This is the word of God. I'm going to read it again. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy and you are that temple. we talked about what is sacred, what is holy, and God says, you want to know what's holy? You are. You are this temple. The Bible says when you got saved, you became like a living stone stacking on top of the other stones, building one temple that is a dwelling place for God. He says it's built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, and Jesus Christ himself is the cornerstone. So it's this one temple that spans time somehow. …

Francis Chan, 2018-01-16

… and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him, for God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. here are some of the thoughts that came to my mind as I pictured that temple in the old testament and the glory of God filling the temple and everyone just on their faces worshiping God and God are you kidding me could you imagine if we were there together and we're just looking at each other. What just happened? So much fear, but so much excitement. Like, I'm not going in there. I'm not getting close to it. This is as close as it gets. This is amazing. Could you imagine? But the thought even enter your mind at that moment to grab a sledgehammer and just start hitting the temple. at that holy sacred moment and yet what does the bible say in the new testament do you not know that you are god's temple and that god's spirit dwells in you if anyone destroys god's temple god will destroy him for god's temple is holy and you are that temple there's a mystery we can do that. …
