But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate with anyone who is called a brother who is a sexual sinner, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist. Don’t even eat with such a person. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.but as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.

… you would have to leave the world. But now I'm writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man, do not even eat. Secondly, by way of application, let us not use a professed desire for holiness as an excuse for not cultivating friendships with unbelieving people. Okay? Let's not follow this idea that now, once in Christ, what we're supposed to do is just hang around with everybody who believes the same as we believe and goes where we go and us what we do. How in the world are we supposed to reach the gospel? If all the salt stays in the salt shaker, what are you going to do with the mashed potatoes? The salt has to be on the mashed potatoes. … Look at that which is addressed in Scripture. When you look in 1 Corinthians 5.11, I'll just read it to you here. Paul says, Now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother, but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a swindler. Those things are pretty clear. They're revealed in Scripture. It's the whole picture in Matthew 18 when your brother sins against you. Galatians 1. If your brother is caught in a sin. What I wanted to do is I wanted to give you just a list of questions to at least just think through as you're processing through. Is this something I just need to overlook or is this something that out of love and obedience to Christ that I need to confront or address my brother or sister in? …

… sexually immoral in the world, you couldn't go out of your house. You'd go somewhere else, another planet. But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother, but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. With such a man do not even eat. Don't even sit at the table with him. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside expel the wicked man from among you. I want you to notice the forceful language Paul uses here four times what he says to do. Verse 2 he says, put that brother out of your fellowship. Verse 5, hand him over to Satan, which we'll talk about in a minute. Verse 7, get rid of that brother and member of the church. And verse 13, expel the wicked man from among you. This right here pretty much rules Paul out of being on the front cover of Church Growth magazines. He's just lost his right to do that ever. And not just Paul. Jesus tells us this in Matthew 18. Paul talks about it here in 1 Corinthians chapter 5. The Word of God is telling us to remove a member from the church, to remove a brother or sister from the church. Why? …
