Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing. Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

… in defending him 1 Thessalonians 5 11 encourage each other and build each other up do you know what Satan's favorite four words are? you can't do it. Satan loves to say that to people. He whispers it in your ear thousands of times in your lifetime. You can't do it. So every time you encourage somebody you are defeating Satan in their life. Every time you just encourage them. You can do it. You can do it. Do you know what is the number one killer of love in marriage? It's not financial debt. It's not adultery. It's not anger. It's not hatred. The number one thing that kills marriages is neglect. it's neglect. If I knew this was the last time I'd see you fall asleep, I'd tuck you in more tightly and pray your soul to keep. If I knew this was the last time I'd see you out the door, I'd hug and I'd kiss you one more time and call you back for more. If I knew this was the last time I'd get to share your day I know that I'd make certain it didn't slip away. …
… maybe we need to do a little better on 1 Thessalonians 5 and 11. Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up. Now, you know, I don't think I'll come to the communion service tonight. I just don't feel like it. Yeah, I know you don't feel like it, but 1 Thessalonians 5 and 11 says you're supposed to encourage one another and build one another up. And this would be a good chance to do that. Yeah, I think I'll be there. I don't know who the people are getting baptized. They don't know me. They don't need me. Yeah, they do. And since you've been called to encourage one another and edify one another and build one another up, you wouldn't want to miss a chance like that, would you? You wouldn't want to miss the chance to take somebody who has been brought from darkness into light, has been made a child of the day, is struggling to make their way through life, is coming out of the buffetings of a week, is trying to find their understanding of the Scriptures and make progress, and they put one foot in front of the other, they fall down on their faces, and they're looking around for somebody just to pick them up and set them on. …
… And we need to encourage one another as Christians. 1 Thessalonians 5.11 says, encourage each other and build each other up. It does not say discourage each other and tear each other down. That's what some people do. No, encourage each other. Then in Hebrews 10.24, we're told, let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as a habit of some is, but rather encouraging one another and so much more as we see the day of the Lord approaching. We can all use some encouragement. So let me say this to you. I don't know what you're going through right now in your life but I wanna say whatever you're going through, you're gonna get through it. You say, well Greg, how do you know? You're not on my shoes. No, I'm not. But I know what the Bible says. I think of the story of when Jesus said to his disciples, let's go to the other side, speaking of the Sea of Galilee. So they boarded their little boat, impredictably. A storm came, and it was a big storm, so bad that even the seasoned sailors despaired of life. But what did Jesus say? He said, let's go to the other side. He did not say, let's go to the middle of the Sea of Galilee and drown together, shall we? If He said that, I'd rather not board that boat, if you don't mind. He said, let's get over to the other side. He did not promise them …
… But not only in moments of resistance in everyday church life. 1 Thessalonians 5.11, therefore encourage one another and build each other up just as in fact you are now doing. A part of congregational life, if you're in a small group or serving on a team, part of that dynamic should be an encouraging environment. We need encouragement when processing church discipline. 2 Corinthians 13, the Corinthians were a wild bunch. You think there's scandals in the church now. Go back to Corinth, wild. They had to remove people from their congregation, but when they're bringing them back in, look how Paul closes 2 Corinthians 13. Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice, strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. We forget sometimes that when you show up in somebody's life, you can carry a spirit of encouragement that lifts them. Paul says this to the Ephesians by the coming of Tychicus. he says I'm sending him to you for this very purpose that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts we should encourage one another as a part of our regular teaching Titus 2 15 these are the things you should teach encourage and rebuke now I don't want to talk about rebuking today it's not a sermon on rebuking that's an important part of what we do but encouragement is what should be happening from the pulpit we need encouragement to resist the …
… It's true. 1 Thessalonians 5.11, Therefore, comfort each other and edify one another just as you also are doing. This is the way believers work. This is the way believers live. To encourage each other. I hope you have somebody as a friend or a spouse that's encouraging you. Encouragement is an amazing thing. We all need it. 1 Corinthians 15.33 Do not be deceived. Evil company corrupts good habits. Or the word can be translated evil company will corrupt or taint right or good morals. I think about these young people all the time. In my mind, I don't say it much, but in my mind when we're praying for them into the military, I'm always thinking, oh God, may they be the salt because the whole universe is going to align itself against them. Like Daniel in Babylon. But you don't have to cave in. surround yourself with one or two or three good people that will build you up proverbs 9 verse 6 says forsake foolishness and live and go in the way of understanding forsake foolishness decision making when somebody says hey let's do this stop and stop for a moment Just pause for a second or two. …
