which the blessed and only Sovereign One—the King of kings and Lord of lords—will bring about in His own time.which at the right time he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;which in its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

forever. Amen. Let's pause in a moment of prayer. Make the book live to me, O Lord. Show me yourself within your Word. Show me myself, and show me my Savior, and make the book live to me. For Jesus' sake, amen. Do not be like them. That was Jesus' statement to his disciples in the Sermon on the Mount when he encouraged them to be radically different from those who were their pagan neighbors. These individuals were concerned about all kinds of things on a very natural level, and Jesus said to his disciples, If you're going to follow me, and if you're going to declare your trust in me, then do not be like them. Now, that simple phrase could so easily have been taken up and employed by Paul as he comes to this particular point in his exhortation of Timothy. Because he has been pointing out to Timothy and to Timothy's readers the fact that the false teachers who had made such an impact in the community in which Timothy was ministering, were themselves involved in fruitless squabbles. They were greedy, double-talking, troublemakers. And it was imperative that if Timothy's ministry was going to have the kind of impact that God intended, then Timothy mustn't be like these folks—individuals who, by their very lifestyle, had indicated the fact that they saw ministry and godliness as a means to financial gain. And between verse 3 and verse 10 of chapter 6, although not for the first time, Paul is pointing out the vices of these individuals. …

'The King of the Jews'
Charles Spurgeon, 1874-12-06

Dearly beloved Friends, this is the conclusion of the whole matter, let us cheerfully accept Him as our King. Have we done so? Then let us try to push His conquests on yet further and seek to extend the boundaries of His Kingdom. Are you doing this? Then, do it yet mare earnestly and do it with the right instrument, for the great weapon of conquest is the Cross. It was on the Cross that the proclamation was first lifted up and it is by the Cross that it must be carried to the ends of the earth—not by human learning or eloquence, not by bribery, or the help of the State and I know not what besides, but by the setting forth of Christ evidently crucified among the sons of men. The Cross is its own battle-axe and weapon of war. "In this sign shall you conquer." Let the whole Church preach Christ more, live Christ more and then the proclamation of His Kingdom, which was first fastened up on that Cross, shall be emblazoned throughout the whole world and the power of His Kingdom shall be felt to the very ends of the earth! I looked into the darkness and I thought I saw a Cross before me. And I saw Him who did once hang upon it. But, as I looked at it, that Cross seemed to grow. It seemed to become a tree and I saw it strike its roots down deep until the lowest depths of human misery had been touched and blessed by them. Then I saw that tree tower on high, piercing the clouds, passing through the very firmament up above the stars, lifting Believers up upon it and bearing them to the very Throne of God by its majestic power! Then I saw that tree stretch forth its mighty branches on every side. Their shadow fell across this highly-favored land of ours and also fell across the land on the other side of the sea. As I watched, the blessed branches stretched out to Europe, to Asia, to Africa, to America and to Australia, also. I watched it grow till it became so vast a tree that its shadow seemed to cover the whole earth! And I blessed and adored the God of Heaven that He had instituted so mighty a power for the blessing of the sons of men! O Jesus, once crucified but now exalted, so let it be! And let us be Your humble instruments in promoting the extension of Your blessed reign! And we will always adore You, as we do now, not only as "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews," but as "the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen."

A Vision of the King
Charles Spurgeon, 1863-10-04

I. First, dear Friends, we have plainly enough in the text, A KING PRE-EMINENT—"Your eyes shall see the King." No name is given and no name is needed. It is here as it was when the spouse began the Canticles by singing, "Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth." There was no need to say to whom she was referring, for the chaste bride wanted no kisses from anyone but her Beloved! I am speaking to those who know the Lord and, therefore, I say to them—You know, Beloved, that our Lord Jesus is King by Divine right. He is the brightness of His Father's Glory and the express Image of His Person. God has appointed Him heir of all things, and by Him God made the worlds. "For by Him were all things created that are in Heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist." He "is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords." Well did the inspired Prophet write concerning Him, "The government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end." It is by His permission that other kings reign! And when He pleases, He can in a moment remove the mightiest monarchs from their throne! He is the only Sovereign who is King by Divine right—the absolute Disposer of all events, to whom all power in …
