A Charge to a Man of God — Part Two
Alistair Begg, 2026-09-23

… his ways like lost sheep. So the Word of God comes to shine on our path and say, Do you want to know how to be righteous? Read this book. 2 Timothy 3.16, All Scripture is inspired by God, is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. There doesn't need to be a great mystery about it. You say, Okay, I understand. I haven't been pursuing righteousness. I want to pursue righteousness. What should I do? Read your Bible. What should I do? Study the Word. What should I do? Sit under the instruction of God's Word. The righteous judge has a crown of righteousness laid up for those who pursue righteousness. And it is not that in our pursuit we seek to make ourselves acceptable to God. it is in our pursuit that we reveal the wonder of the fact that God in Christ has accepted us. Now, to that word, he adds the word godliness, eusebia. And this word godliness he has used again with frequency throughout. In verse 2 of chapter 2, he urges them to live quiet lives in godliness and holiness. In verse 16 of chapter 3, he says the mystery of godliness is great. In verse 7 of chapter 4, he says, Don't mess around with godless myths and old wild tales. …

For All In The Family
Jack Hibbs, 2026-09-20

… The Bible, listen, the Bible teaches us that God disciplines his church even. Look at 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 and 17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That is in how to do the right thing. That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Wow. The word of God. The Bible. remarkable instruction. God wants to use words to us. He says to Israel, listen to me and obey me. Why will you be like the stubborn donkey? He didn't, the old King James doesn't use the word donkey. I don't, it uses that other word. Why will you be like that when I want to lead you with my right hand? This is fun. God's right hand of power and strength. Did you know that when God says, I will deliver you with my righteous right hand. In the Middle Eastern culture, it's shaking with your right hand. …

… This is still true. about this great book. 2 Timothy chapter 3 verse 16 says, all scripture, church that includes the book of Proverbs, is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. And in Proverbs chapter 4, we know this, we saw this in the introduction of this book. The Bible says, Proverbs 4 verse 23, keep your heart, guard it, watch over it. Listen, for all of us it's true, but young people today, most importantly, young people, keep or guard, set a watch over your hearts with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Wow. Your life is going to be lived out by the value that you have stored within your heart. If you value the things of God, you are going to live a life that honors God. If you don't, you're going to live a life that honors self. By the way, that word issue in the Hebrew language, a very powerful word, it means from the center to the vanishing point. I like that. And beyond. To the escapes. That's an interesting statement, the way it puts it. To the escapes. …

May 18, 2026: Faithful Mentorship
Alistair Begg, 2026-05-18 · Scripture reading

… salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. And this is the word of the Lord. Just checking for Episcopalians in the group. That's all right. All right. A brief prayer. Father, what we know not, teach us. What we have not, give us. What we are not, make us. And we ask it in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, I chose the second letter of Timothy somewhat arbitrarily. The more I read it, the more I said to myself, there is some sense in which 2 Timothy provides us with a mentoring manual. Admittedly, Timothy's circumstances is different from many other people, and Paul is unique. But to the extent that it is an older man counseling a younger man, as this older man has now reached the end of his journey. In chapter 4, he says, the time has come for my departure. I'm already being poured out like a drink offering. So he is absolutely committed to making sure that his young mentee, Timothy, is going to hold the line. …

The Way Of Wisdom
Jack Hibbs, 2026-04-12

… I'm calling this what is a grand slam for all of us. 2 Timothy 3, verse 16. When we look at the book of Proverbs, remember this. All scripture. Can I change up the words? All of the Proverbs is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Look at it that way. Also this, in Proverbs chapter 4, verse 23, this is that other verse, Proverbs 1, 7, and Proverbs 4, 23, those two verses are the summation of the entire book. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. guard, garrison your heart, guard your heart, guard it. Our culture today, our young people today, listen, grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, listen, to our children and to our children's children, we must communicate to them, figure out how it works in your family. Get your kids, if they're gone, call them up. Send them a video. Do FaceTime. Tell them. …

… Do you use the book? that's 2nd Timothy chapter 3 verse 16 all scriptures breathed out by God and profitable useful valuable beneficial for teaching for reproof for correction for training in righteousness that the man of God may be equipped complete for every good work do you use it it's meant to be used Okay. have your Bibles ready at the elder meeting. It was so encouraging to me. A couple weeks ago, we had an emergency pastor's meeting for a crisis we're dealing with. And I saw leather-bound Bibles on the table at the elder's meeting like I hadn't seen in a while. and at least what that represented is if we can refer to the book on any of this now this so much of it was great so much we need wisdom there's not a specific verse but if we can refer to the book on anything I got the Bible right here and we're going to it and it also represented for every guy at that table I have been shaped by this book any wisdom, any helpful perspective I bring to this table has been shaped in me by this book over these years. …

Elam – The Setting Of The Stage
Jack Hibbs, 2026-02-25

… And also this, really quick. 2 Timothy 3, verse 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God. This gets fun. Watch this. all scriptures given by inspiration of God second Peter chapter 1 verse 21 for prophecy that is the revelation of scripture never came by the will of man but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit so the entire Bible this is great you got to write this down if you don't have the notes the entire Bible is remarkable because it's a self-authenticating message system Again, remember, if somebody says, well, I don't read the Bible because the Bible just speaks about itself. The Bible speaks about itself. It speaks about science. It speaks about humanity. It speaks about sin. It speaks about righteousness. It speaks about everything. And it presents it in such a way that it begs you to come and attack it to see if it's worthy of your faith. The Bible's not afraid of anyone testing it. …

… Verse 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God. It is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, or the woman of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Here's the deal. The word of God equips me, spirit, soul, and body, intellectually, emotionally, mentally, which is different than intellectually. It's the state of my mind, physically, in the natural, thoroughly equipped for every good work. In other words, any challenge that comes before me, I am ready to represent the king with adequate service to invest into that situation so that Jesus is well represented. It's the word of God. The word of God working in and through my life equips me to be adequate and successful in any opportunity I have to represent the king in a given situation. I love the Bible. I love my Bible. I love stuff like that. Even he, whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away. …

… Reason number one, the perfection of Scripture. You know 2 Timothy 3.16, all Scripture is breathed out by God. You're used to that as a classic text on the authority and the inspiration of Scripture. But that's not really the debate, at least with conservative Catholics. They too affirm the authority and the inspiration of Scripture. But 2 Timothy 3.15, 16, and 17 say something else that is key. Verse 15, Scripture is able to make you wise for salvation. So the Bible, if you just have the Bible, it will make you wise for salvation. You would not need something else. And more importantly, verse 17 says, Scripture makes us competent, equipped for every good work. Now, yes, Paul is referring most immediately to the Old Testament, but we know that the early church counted the apostolic writings as Scripture. Peter said Paul's writings were Scripture. So we can apply this to all of Scripture, old and new. The important point is this. Paul considers Scripture perfect. By that I mean lacking in nothing. …

Dr. Kevin DeYoung | The Lord of Lists
Kevin DeYoung, 2025-09-02 · Scripture reading

… Let me give you a more helpful commentary on the chapter. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training, and righteousness that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. So I'm going to go with the Apostle Paul's inspired commentary. And though it's true, some passages of Scripture are going to be high mountain peaks, and this is not one of them, yet God has something for us to inspire us and to teach us. I'm going to read through the passage, stopping along the way to explain what we have here, and then we will zero in on a few points. So follow along beginning at verse 1. Now, these were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried captive to Babylonia. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town. They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Saraiah, Realiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Bigvi, Rehum, and Baanan. So what we have here are the people returning from Judah, that is the southern kingdom, Judah and Benjamin. The northern tribes had been carried off to Assyria 150 years earlier, and they're going back to the capital of Jerusalem. You see some names in verse two may be familiar to you zerubbabel and then jeshua who is likely the same person here as joshua the high priest the story about him in the book of zachariah chapter 3. …

The Bible. The Bible. He uses the Bible to shape my character. Read here. Put up on the screen. 2 Timothy 3.16. Look at this one. All scripture is given by the inspiration of God and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, in instruction in righteousness, so the man of God or the woman of God going to her night Wednesday may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. You know what the Bible is teaching us? The Word of God actually will correct us and rebuke us. I don't know anybody that goes to Zoe Church. It's like, one of my favorite things about being in church is like, I just get rebuked so much. And I don't know what it is about being in community. It's like I get corrected and I get rebuked. I joined this one connect and they rebuked me. So I left that one. I went to another one and they corrected me. And it's just the best. I don't know a person in the world that likes to be rebuked. That's all right. If you don't like a person correcting you, just open the Bible. It will correct you every day. It will correct your bad thinking. It'll correct your negative heart. It'll correct your faulty spending. It'll correct your lying, your cheating, your stealing, your manipulating. …

… through life with authority to know who he is and who you are and to exercise the power of the word of God. Amen? I felt all that and I wasn't sure if maybe anybody else did. Our text has been 2 Timothy 3.16. It says, all scripture is God-breathed. And so if you're wondering, where do we get this whole breath on a page idea? That's where we got it, right there. And Pastor Grant was reminding us again last week, it's not just ink on a page, it's breath on a page. It's a miracle. And it is useful. What's useful? All scripture is useful. All of it is useful. Exodus is useful. Deuteronomy is useful. It was to Jesus tempted in the wilderness three times. The gospels are useful. Revelation is useful. The Psalms are useful. For what? For teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and training in righteousness so that, here's the outcome of all scripture, so that the servant of God, not just somebody rolling through life that's like, yeah, I'll read the scripture. …

"The Divine However", Min. Gil Barney
Min. Gil Barney, 2021-07-26

Now, this is a Baptist house, so I would imagine that many of you would agree with me when I say that scripture is holy. But for those who need a little bit more evidence, let's turn to 2 Timothy 3.16. And it states this, all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness. Scripture teaches us and gives us rules, traditions, procedures, principles, instructions, advice, warnings, and precautions, so on and so on. No matter how you slice it, God's word is holy. You see, there is death in the world, but there is life in this book. and there is life in the God that inspired the spirit behind the words that dwell inside and outside of this book. I believe it, Reverend Mark. I affirm it. I proclaim it. I'll debate it. And those that have had the privilege of getting to know me here at Alpha Street and during this internships can attest to that very fact. I don't play about the scriptures. To me, all scripture is profitable for our life. Now, I'm not Pastor Wesley, but can I push it? Not only do I believe that scripture is holy, I'll even go so far as to suggest that even the sentence structure and organization in verses for a passage are holy. Even the sentence structure of a passage can teach us greatly. And that is what I believe we find in our fundamental text. In Psalm 86, I believe there …

… I believe the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is the Word of God. And I believe that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable. God inspired it all. It is all profitable. And I don't know whether you analyze what you hear from the pulpit from time to time or ever think about it, but one of my goals, one of my aims, is to preach all the counsel of God. Not just to zero in in one area or one section, but to present the whole counsel of God. that's part of the wholesomeness that I have on my heart. But not only the whole Bible, but out of the whole Bible to present the whole Christ. The whole Christ. Now, in many churches, we only hear part of Christ. For example, we hear people talking about receiving Christ as your Savior. Well, in a sense, that's right. But you know that's not Bible language. The Bible never teaches you to receive Christ as your Savior. …
