“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

Bruce Creswell | The Best is Yet to Come
Bruce Creswell, 2026-06-01

… Why? Because his word says that he will return. Remember the words the angels gave to the disciples in Acts chapter 1, verse 11? He men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? The same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will come, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven. from Christ's resurrection we know that we who are united to him by the spirit will also be raised like him we do know that his coming will be as a thief in the night so be ready do you ever know when a thief is going to come into your house do you know when a thief is going to break into your car of course not and our lord's going to return when we think not that he will we're told in first thessalonians that the dead in christ will rise first and those that are alive will be called up with them in the clouds to meet the lord in the air our bodies and our souls will be reunited and you can rest assured that your body is not going to be attached to somebody else's soul that you don't have to worry about getting my body. …

Care Sacrificially – Part 1
David Platt, 2026-02-04

… It's the same word that Luke tells us, describes how the disciples, when in Acts chapter 1, verse 10 and 11, Jesus ascended into heaven, it says they looked intently, they fixed their eyes on him. Same thing in Acts chapter 7, verse 54 through 60, when Stephen is about to be stoned, it says he looked up to heaven, he saw Jesus, the glory of God, saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. So it's a fixed gaze. It's not just a glance. What I want you to see is a progression here. When we begin to get a hold of the reality of the needs around us, number one, we begin to see the hurts around us. This is the progression. Very simple in this passage. We see the hurt. then second we begin to feel the hurt it's not just glancing at it oh yeah that's there it's it's beginning to feel the weight of that that's exactly what luke is getting at in verse four when it says peter and john looked at him intently it's not just a pass a look as they passed by so they saw the hurt they felt the hurt and number three we touched the hurt that's exactly what peter does a pretty bold statement to say you know i don't have any money but i do have this get up and walk. …

A Missional Awakening
David Platt, 2025-12-10

… when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. Men of Galilee, they said, why do you stand here looking into the sky? The same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. Now, as we come to this part of the book of Acts, we need to understand who's writing this. It's a guy named Luke. Luke also wrote the book of Luke. Very good. And so what we see is Luke ends up in chapter 24, the last chapter of the book of Luke, and picks up at Acts chapter 1 at the exact same place. Same place as Jerusalem. Exact same promise. Luke 24, Jesus promises that he's going to clothe his disciples with power from on high. Acts chapter 1, you're going to receive power when the Spirit comes upon you. And the same plan is outlined there in Luke 24. 47 through 49 verses right there, they talk about how repentance, forgiveness of sins is going to be preached in all the world. That's exactly what's going on right here. And so we see an overlap, a continuation here from the book of Luke. …
