… to stay true to the Lord. Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord. I love that. he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. Let that be said of you, that you're a good man, a good woman, full of the Holy Spirit, encouraging others. And I love the word that Barnabas gave to the believers there. He encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. And I want to encourage you to do the same right now. Stay true to the Lord. Hold the course that you are on. Don't deviate from it to the left or the right. I've mentioned Chuck Smith a couple times in this message. Here's one last story. I was having lunch with him once. So we're sitting there and I said, Chuck, if an older Chuck could speak to a younger Chuck, what would you say to yourself? And Chuck said, Greg, will you stop asking me these stupid questions? …

… to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Now, I don't know if you remember what happens in Acts chapter 11, but this is the first place the gospel goes from a Jewish context to a pagan context. And it wasn't an authorized mission trip by the apostles. It just says some men preached the gospel to Gentiles and not only to Jews. History's greatest missionary window was opened by men whose names we do not even know in the book of Acts. And they start preaching the gospel and they have this revelation. The gospel can save not just Jews but anybody on earth. The city of Antioch had a massive temple where there was prostitution. It was a huge sporting city. There was a chariot racing environment. It was truly a pagan city. And so you think about Jewish culture. You think about, and again, you think about Barnabas, a Levite. …

Multiply Exponentially – Part 1
David Platt, 2026-05-13

… Look down in verse 24, talking about Barnabas. It says Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Verse 25 says Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. So Luke's pretty intentional here, but it doesn't stop there. Turn over to Acts chapter 14. Look at Acts chapter 14, verse 1. Paul and Barnabas come to a place called Iconium. They preach the gospel there. Listen to what happens. Acts chapter 14, verse 1 says, at Iconium, Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue, and there they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. Same chapter, look at verse 21. they come back to Antioch in Syria chapter 14 verse 21 says they preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples it continues on look at chapter 17 we looked at 16 5 we saw him mention numbers there look at Acts chapter 17 verse 4 they're in Thessalonica now Paul is preaching the gospel there and listen to what Paul says or listen to what Luke tells us Acts chapter 17 verse 4 says some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women. In other words, a lot of …

Worship Wholeheartedly – Part 2
David Platt, 2026-04-01

… he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Barnabas is the representative from the church of Jerusalem that goes to be a part of really helping this church at Antioch get off the ground. You see later on, you've got something going on there at church at Antioch in the same chapter, verse 29, it says the disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. They took up an offering for the poor. And verse 30 says this they did, sending their gift to the elders by who? Barnabas and Saul. Barnabas is a guy we know we can trust to take this gift to the poor. When you get over to Acts chapter 3. You see the church setting apart missionaries to go and proclaim the gospel. And it says in verse 2, while they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. Acts chapter 13, verse 2. One more time, Acts chapter 15. Acts chapter 15. Look over in verse 36 and 37. …

On Starting Five New Congregations
David Platt, 2026-02-18

… to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul. When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year, they met with the church there and taught a great many people. And in Antioch, the disciples were first called Christians. So get the picture. Now the gospel spread, not just to Jewish people, but to Gentiles or Greeks, specifically in Antioch, where a church is planted, and it's the first place that the disciples, followers of Jesus, are called Christians. Now, one other place, keep going to Acts chapter 13. Turn over there where we pick up this church in Antioch. It says, in this church, there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, who we've already heard about, Simeon, who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manan, a lifelong friend of Herod the Tetrarch, and Saul, who we've also heard about. …
