… great miracles taking place and was constantly amazed. The other instance of that word dunamis is found in Acts 19 verses 11 and 12. It's Paul's preaching at Ephesus. It had one of the seven wonders of the world, the temple of Artemis or Diana. It was known for its sophistication, but also known for its practice of demonic activity and black magic. And so what did God do? He put a true prophet, Paul, there. And look at verses 11 and 12. God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul so that, get this, handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out. What is he talking about? Well, handkerchiefs, you know, weren't these little decorative things like I wear. It was a handkerchief that was used to mop off the sweat. It literally means sweat cloths, what we would call sweat bands. And they took the sweat cloths off of Paul or his apron, something that tradesmen like tent makers would wear in their work, take them off of Paul's body and put them on those who were sick, and the sick would be miraculously healed. …
… God is using him powerfully and miracles are happening. Acts 19 verse 11 says, God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles when handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people. they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled. Stop there. So the emphasis says unusual miracles. These are not your normal miracles. Actual garments that have touched Paul are now being used by God to heal people. There was no healing power in something Paul wore. But it seems that in the minds of the people there was sort of a faith release, if you will, where they thought, if I just touch this shirt that Paul wore, this robe, or whatever it would be, I too will be healed. We see a similar situation in the story of the woman with a medical condition causing her to constantly bleed. And she reasoned, if I can touch the very edge of the garment of Jesus, I will be healed. Now Jesus didn't say that. He didn't promise that. But she thought that. …
… All these things happened through his words. But you know what Luke, the medical doctor, said about Paul in Acts chapter 19, verse 11? I just remembered this scripture this week when I was studying, because I thought about how the snake bit Paul in his hand, and then he healed a man in a house with his hand that had been bit. And I thought that was so amazing, and I reflected on it, and I meditated on it, and I said, well, what do I tell them about that? And he took me to Acts 19, verse 11. Look at this verse. Luke says, The Enemy always bites you where God has blessed you. The fire and the fangs came from the same place. The pain and the purpose came from the same place. The hand that God used… This is a healing hand. This is a hand that when Paul laid his hands on the believers, they received the Holy Spirit. God worked unusual miracles through the hands of Paul. What I am learning, the longer I spend time in this human body, is that wherever God has blessed you, you will be bitten. …
