… Nicodemus conceded, Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher. How do we know that? For no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him. Acts 2.22, Peter said, the miracles confirmed the trustworthiness of the messengers of God. Number four, sometimes God sends miracles to confirm the truth of his message. Now, many times, most times, that's the We see that in Acts 14.3. Peter and Barnabas were preaching in Iconium and it says, they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord who was testifying to the word of his grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands. Their message was grace. Their message was we are not saved by keeping the law or offering the sacrifices of the Old Testament. We are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ. We're talking about a tectonic shift, an earthquake. That was an earthquake to Judaism. How do we know these men are telling the truth and not preaching heresy? Well, it says by the signs and wonders that they performed. Hebrews 2 verses 3 and 4, after it was first spoken, what? The gospel through the Lord, it was confirmed through signs and wonders. Now, signs are primarily to confirm God's message of salvation, but occasionally God will use a sign to confirm a personal message he has given to us. Now, we have to be careful here. To try to use signs to determine God's will can be tricky. …
… but the grave clothes were intact. The Bible says they were amazed. They were open-mouthed as they watched that. In Acts 2.22, Peter said this in his sermon at Pentecost, men of Israel, listen to these words, Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs, same on which God performed through him in your midst, just as you know. In Hebrews 2 verses 3 and goes first, what? After the gospel was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God testifying with them both by signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit. That's what the word means. It refers to the amazement that people experience when they see a true miracle. Fourthly, the word works or ergo. This is a word works, that is used almost exclusively of the miracles Jesus performed. The Bible said there were certain miracles that the Messiah would perform, and this would be like a neon sign pointing to Jesus. …
… It was Christ-centered. Acts 2.22, he says, Jesus of Nazareth. Acts 2.32, this man, speaking of Jesus. Acts 2.36, God made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. And then he spoke of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. And no matter what you're talking about, you gotta bring it back to the cross. Listen to this. Sometimes in our attempts to cross over, we don't bring the cross over. Paul says, I don't want to know anything else among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was doing an interview the other day about our crusade and I was asked the question, what are you going to speak on this year? I said, pretty much the same thing I've been speaking on for 30 years, okay? I'll be honest with you. I mean, I'll have a theme, I'll have some opening remarks, but ultimately you know where I'm headed and I say that without apology. I'm gonna talk about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ because that's where the power is. …
… Listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge. and you with the help of wicked men put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David said about him, I saw the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand. I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices. My body also will live in hope because you will not abandon me to the grave nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence. Now there he's quoting from Psalms. Anybody know where? …
… is doing. Look at Acts chapter 2, verse 17. In the last days, God says, I'm going to pour out my spirit on all people. And in verse 22, two times over here, men of Israel, listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God. God put a stamp of approval on him to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did among you through him. Verse 23, this is a pretty heavy verse. This man, Jesus, was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge. God did that. You hear what he's telling them? When they put Jesus on the cross, it wasn't an accident. It Was it, oh no, it's out of my hands. The people have taken Jesus and they're putting him on a cross. That was God's set purpose. Jesus came to die. Jesus came and by the purpose of God, he took the wrath of our sin upon himself on a cross. And it was God who poured out wrath on his son instead of on you and me. …
