… a tragedy? These godless men grabbed hold of him and snuffed out his life prematurely. That's not what the Bible says. In Acts 2.23, Peter at the great sermon at Pentecost said, this man Jesus was delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God. God had a plan for Jesus' life. It's a plan that included the date of his birth in Bethlehem and it included the day of his death on Calvary. And that same God has a plan for your life. God has an immutable, unchangeable plan for your life. He has written down the day of your birth. He's written down the day of your death. If you don't believe that, just consider Ephesians 1 verse 11. Paul said, also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to his purpose, who works all things after the counsel of his will. Every part of your life has been planned by God. There are no accidents in your life or the life of somebody you love. Everything, all things, including the day of your death are following the counsel of his will. And notice that word will is singular. …
… It was part of a plan, God's plan. Acts 2.23, Peter, speaking of the crucifixion, said God knew this would happen in his prearranged plan, which was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. And then he said to the crowd, you nailed him to a cross and killed him. And I bring this up because sometimes people think that perhaps the cross was an interruption to another plan. That Jesus was going to come and bring world peace and everything was going to be wonderful and the Roman government would be overthrown. But he came to this earth with the express purpose of dying on the cross, fulfilling all of those Old Testament types and sacrifices that pointed to him. The Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world. So it was all part of God's plan. Even after his birth, remember those wise men came from the east. And what were the gifts that they brought him? Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Gold because he was a king. …
… This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge. and you with the help of wicked men put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David said about him, I saw the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand. I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices. My body also will live in hope because you will not abandon me to the grave nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence. Now there he's quoting from Psalms. Anybody know where? Psalms chapter 16. You're catching on. All right. Verses 8 through 11. He's quoting from Psalms. So now we've got Joel. Then we've got Psalms chapter 16. Then he continues. …
