… thinking about it and reliving it. It ends up souring your future. But God knew that life wouldn't always be fair. He said in Psalm 110, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. He didn't say until your enemies go away, you never see them again. He said they will become a footstool They may still be there, but now they're not stopping you. They're under your feet An enemy to a footstool means it changed positions It used to be over you, but now it's under you You used to think about it all the time and give it so much attention and why did this happen? But now you're at peace. You're enjoying life pursuing your dreams Instead of it raining over you you rain over it What happened you repositioned it You couldn't get rid of it, but you put it where it belonged under your feet It used to be controlling you Intimidating you even defining you but now it has no power over you See god doesn't eliminate every enemy He may not take away the offense the hurt the injustice but he has given you the power to take it off the throne of your life and put it under your feet. …
… For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. Or is he quoting from there? Psalm chapter, where's that one? Psalm chapter 110, verse 1. And then he comes to a conclusion. Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this. God has made the Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. What I want you to see as we read through this first Christian sermon is that it is packed full of Old Testament Scripture. This sermon had authority in Acts chapter 2 because it was saturated with the Word. You've got just about half of the verses that are describing the sermon here that are direct quotations from the Old Testament. Peter knew that if he was going to stand to speak with authority on this particular day, he had a responsibility to stand and to use the Word of God. That was where the authority would come from. …
… Everything in creation bows to Christ. Verse 13 says, To which of the angels has he ever said, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet? And the answer is to no angel. So Christ is superior to angels. And the Jews understood the angels were heavenly beings. They were associated with the work of God. They were associated with the law of God. They worshiped the true God in holiness. So who is greater than the angels? If you're going to suggest that this Jesus Christ is our Savior and He is our Redeemer, He's got to be greater than men, because men can't redeem themselves, and He is that, and He's also greater than angels. But the lingering question among the Jews is, how could this man Jesus be greater than the angels when he was a man and died? How could he be the perfect Savior? How could he be the Messiah and be executed, killed? In fact, in 1 Corinthians 1.23, the Apostle Paul says, the death of Christ on the cross was a stumbling block to the Jews. …
… The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies a footstool for thy feet. Listen, God, I believe, wants us to center the message in the Scriptures. Whether it is an expository sermon, a topical sermon, a textual sermon, loaded with the Scriptures. It should be founded upon the Word of God, not something you've got somewhere else and scratch up a few verses here and there to fit around a beautiful story, a real tearjerker that you've heard somewhere, and focus that on your people. That's not preaching the Gospel. If you're going to preach the Gospel, you've got to proclaim Jesus Christ. He's got to be at the heart of what's going on. So first of all, it has to be scripturally centered. That is, you get the message out of God's Word. Secondly, I believe it should be custom designed to meet the needs. Now listen, these folks said, these men are drunk. They've been drinking at this early hour of the morning. …
