… that your sins may be blotted out in times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Here's the missing key. Repentance. Repentance. people are told to believe. People are told if you believe in Jesus, He'll come into your life. That's true. People are told if you'll ask Christ to forgive you of your sins, He will. That's true. But they're not told you need to repent of your sin. What does it mean to repent? To repent means to change your direction. It's not just being sorry. Well, I'm sorry. But if you go and do it again. Are you really sorry? Well I cried. Well tears don't mean you are really sorry. You can cry chopping onions. The Bible says godly sorrow produces repentance. In other words if you are really sorry you will be sorry enough to stop. Repentance means you turn. Go in the opposite direction of where you were going before. And here is the problem. I think there is a lot of people out there that say, I'm a Christian, but they've never repented of their sin. They're still living in sin. And this is the problem. What does it mean to repent? It means to turn from your sin. …
… so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. It's the exact same thing Peter had said in Acts 2. So he's exalting the person of Christ. But second, I want you to see that it's trusting his power. When Peter says in the name of Christ, he's looking to the power of Christ to bring healing to this man. And this is where it gets really good in Luke's use of the name of Christ throughout the book of Acts. If you walk through this book and you see different instances where the name of Christ is mentioned. You see in Acts chapter 2, verse 38, the name is preached and 3,000 people are saved. Acts 3 and 4, the name is used and a couple thousand more are added to their number. Acts chapter 8, Philip is preaching and the name of Christ is preached and many more people come to know Christ. Acts chapter 9 says that Saul, who became Paul, came in touch and face to face with the name of Christ. …
… the way and I'm going to do it God's way. And so they preach that repent and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. This is the gospel. This is what we're preaching today. Stop going your way. Admit that your way is not the right way. Turn to God and God through Christ will forgive you, not on an incremental basis, not on a little chintzy basis, but he will wipe out your sin. this is the gospel not repent and turn to god and if you do good for a day god will be kind for a day and if you take a real strong step toward him he'll take a strong step toward you no if you turn from your way and come through christ to god in repentance he'll wipe your sins out wipe them out blot them out is what the text implies it's kind of like this idea and you're like well i don't really know. You know, one sin, by the way, just to remind us, will cause you to fall short of the glory of God. One sin will cause you to fall short of the perfection of God. That's what scripture teaches. But none of us are in that boat anyway, right? Nobody's in the one sin boat. No, no, no, we've all got so many that, and I was going to take time and do this ahead of time, but I didn't …
