I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. It's a great way to live. Deuteronomy 30, verse 19 says, Deuteronomy 30, 19 says, I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you or putting you on notice that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life. The God of the Bible says, choose life that both you and your descendants may live. Can we give God a hand for that? That is the will of God, that you live your life for the glory of God. What I don't like is he says, choose, because I don't want to choose. I want him to tell me what to do. But he doesn't want that. He wants me to obey him out of love. Choose today. And so my prayer is, oh God, please don't let me ever choose wrongly. Keep me from me. and he goes on to tell us and peace will add or be added to you peace will add to you wow and this is the word shalom you know that word already shalom well-being the actual technical word is welfare or to fare well welfare be at peace be at rest be calm of body, soul and spirit be calm did you love that? John chapter 14 verse 27 Jesus said it he was the personification of shalom. Jesus says shalom I leave with you my shalom I give to you not as the world gives why because it takes it back. Do I give to you let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. …
… you make your choices, then your choices make you. So the same is true of spiritual growth. We have choices before us. Deuteronomy 30, 19, God says, I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you. I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life. So if a person stumbles and falls spiritually, it's because they chose to. Sort of like if you took your car and you parked it at an incline and did not put it into gear, nor did you put your emergency brake on, guess what's going to happen? Your car is going to go backwards. And in the same way, if we're not moving forward, we're going to, by default, be moving backwards. The choice is ours. So here's the bottom line. What choices are we going to make? Listen to this. Everything you need for spiritual growth and progress is found in your relationship with God. 2 Peter 1.3 says, His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. …
… That is a curse. Deuteronomy chapter 30, verse 19. This is Moses speaking to God's people. And he said, I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life that both you and your descendants may live. And this is Moses speaking to God's people. His last words, actually, and there's a lot of his last words. But it's interesting because he actually repeats this sentiment, choosing life, choosing blessing and not cursing. He repeats that over and over again. and it's words of warning and also instruction and also how to live this life before God. He says, I've set before you blessing and cursing. I've set before you life and death. I love that we're getting to see, here we are sitting in this moment 3,000 years later after Jabez prays such a thing, We're getting to see a healed man pray and live when he could have very well lived a life of bitterness. …
… and possess it. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants. How do you do that? By loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, by holding fast to Him, for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which I have sworn to give to your fathers. Obedience is going to bring you into blessing. This is an affirmation that God expects the people to obey His Word. The prophets were the mouthpiece of that, and they repeatedly were calling on the people to be obedient even in the midst of their disobedience. And the prophets were powerful, powerful purveyors of divine revelation. Jesus tells a story in Luke 16 about a rich man who went to hell and who wanted to have some mercy, wanted someone to dip their finger in water and cool his tongue. …
