… God's going to say in no uncertain terms don't forget can you believe God said that he did the Bible tells us in Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 11 God is speaking to his people before they moved from the wilderness into the promised land. And he said, be careful that you do not forget the Lord, your God. That was thousands of years ago. God's people had gone through a wilderness. I mean, 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, 40 years of tough sledding, as we like to say. 40 years of God guiding them supernaturally, 40 years of miracles, 40 years of death, 40 years of hunger in many circumstances. Yeah, God dropped protein from the sky. God gave them water out of a rock. So God is telling his people, hey guys, when you move into the land of plenty, when you move into an area where your bank accounts are full, where it's a bull market, don't forget me. Don't forget the Lord your God. As I look back over the last 25 years since 9-11, as I look at the trajectory of our nation, have we forgotten God? I mean, straight up, have we forgotten the Lord, our God. …
… and let's look at it really quickly he says in verse 2 he says and you shall remember the lord you shall remember that the lord your god led you all the way these 40 years in the wilderness but watch this so that was the what but here he gives the why to humble you and to test you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments and know. That is the statement right there. He tells them. He reveals to them. And if he reveals it to them later, that meant that there was some sort of profit in him not showing it to them while they were in it. Oh, we're going to have a good time today. And for us, it speaks to how sometimes there are things happening, perhaps in your life right now that what you can't see is God doing something behind the scenes and it may not make sense now but there will come a time in your life where it will track with me and so so you know people ask me sometimes they say you know if you had to tell your your younger self one thing there's one thing you'd have to tell your younger self or if you had to tell the younger generation, if there's this one tip you would give them, one thing you would want them to understand, what is it? …
… Again, just constantly repeating the necessity of obedience. A couple of more, chapter 8, verse 11, "'Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today.'" Verse 19, it shall come about, if you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish. Like the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, so you shall perish, because you You would not listen to the voice of the Lord your God." Now, I took my time in going through that because I want you to understand one dominant theme there, and that is that your relationship to God, whether you're Israel of old or the professing people of God in the modern era, your responsibility to God is defined by obeying His words, His commands. It's not a sentimental relationship, it's a relationship of specific commands and specific obedience. …
