Growing a Love That Lasts - Part 1
Rick Warren, 2026-09-28

… That preserves love. Ephesians 4.2. Be humble and gentle by being patient with each other. Making allowances for each other's faults because of your love. Circle the phrase making allowances. Now, notice it says, be humble, be gentle, and it says, be loving because of your love. Do you consider yourself to be a loving person? You'd say, probably, yeah, I do. Do you consider yourself to be a humble person? Yeah, I just wrote a book on it, it's a bestseller. How to be humble like me. Do you consider yourself to be a gentle person? Well, the truth is, you're none of those if you're critical of other people's faults and flaws. You are not humble if you are critical of other people's faults and flaws. You are prideful. Ephesians 4.2 says, show your love by being helpful to each other. That's consideration. Just being practical and helping each other without your mate having to ask you. Now, have you noticed that my fears are always logical and rational, your fears are stupid. They're dumb. They're illogical. What I'm afraid of, what I have doubts about is very reasonable, but what you're afraid of, well, you shouldn't be afraid of it. And that causes a lot of problems. You're being inconsiderate of the fears and doubts of others. Don't poo-poo their fears. You know, I grew up in a home in the country where we never, ever locked any door. Even when we went away, we never locked the house. …

… Carry one another's burdens with patience, bearing with one another in love. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, submitting to one another in the fear of Christ. In humility, consider one another as more important than yourselves. Do not lie to one another, admonishing one another, increasing and overflow with love for one another. Encourage one another, build up one another, watch out for one another to provoke love and good works. Do not criticize one another. Do not complain about one another. Confess your sins to one another. Pray for one another. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. And the parents said, amen. Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another. Clothe yourselves with humility towards one another. We cannot obey this list if we buy into an individualized, privatized, personalized version of following Jesus. You cannot obey God fully if you're living life individually. You must belong to a community. It's insisted on in scripture, but it's also what you were made for. …
