… blessing. That's just not true. The Bible tells us Abraham had a very clear understanding of what this blessing would be. Hold your place here and turn over to Galatians chapter three. Galatians chapter 3 verses 6 through 8. As you're turning there, let me remind you of the setting of the book of Galatians. The churches at Galatia were being infected by false teachers. They were called the Judaizers. And the Judaizers said this, they said, faith in Jesus Christ is necessary for salvation, but it's not sufficient for salvation. That is, you need to trust in Jesus as your Savior and keep the law, be circumcised, on and on and on and on. It's faith and works. That was the teaching of the Judaizers. Today you have the same thing. In fact, in most of Christendom, you find the same thing being taught. Faith in Christ is important, but it's not enough. To be saved, you need to trust in Christ as your Savior and be baptized and partake of the sacraments and joined this particular church and, and, and, and. It's faith in Christ and for salvation. Paul says no. In Galatians 1.8, he says, if any man preaches another gospel, that is another gospel besides faith in Christ alone, let that man be anathema. Let him be damned. The Bible says it is faith in Christ alone that saves. And to prove that to the Galatians, he uses the story of Abraham. …
… and calls into being things that were not. Galatians chapter three, verse seven says, understand then that those who have faith are of the children of Abraham. And if you grew up in church, you might know the song, Father Abraham. Hey man, he's done. Okay, let's just don't do it. So if you want to understand your faith journey, you have to go back to where it all began because before there was a Bible, there was the presence of God that was calling to the hearts of men. Before Abraham was the father of faith, he was just a man responding to the presence of God. That's what the presence of God does in our life. It calls us to more. It calls us to what's next. It calls us beyond what's comfortable, beyond what's familiar and into a new place. Hebrews chapter 11, verse eight says, by faith, Abraham, when called to go to a new place, he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he had to leave some things behind. …
… of you in this room, into the tree of salvation, the Abrahamic covenant, making Gentiles into sons of Abraham by faith in the Jewish Messiah, Galatians 3 7, creating the church. And now the church is being made glorious. Here's two pictures of it. One is the picture of a wife that you're very familiar with, and the other is a picture of brothers. You know both these texts. Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water and the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing that she might be holy and without blemish. God wants a beautiful bride for his son, and Jesus does too. He's going to pay his life to have a beautiful bride. now what about brothers that's a picture of a wife being made beautiful here's brothers from Romans 8 29 God predestined the church to be conformed to the image of his son that's beautiful in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and those whom he predestined he called and those whom he called he justified and those whom he justified he glorified. …
… Galatians 3.7 If you trust Messiah Jesus, you are a true Jew. Romans 2.29 If you trust Messiah Jesus, you are an heir of the new covenant that Jesus bought with his blood. And this text is a form of the new covenant. If you trust in Jesus, you are in Christ Jesus, and he looks into your eye and he says, every promise that was ever made in my old book is yours. Okay? So this is yours. If you're in Christ Jesus, by faith. And it's breathtaking. So I'm going to read it, and then we'll talk about it. Starting at verse 36 in Jeremiah 32. Now, therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city, which you say, it is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, by pestilence. behold I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and in my wrath and in great indignation and I will bring them back to this place and I will make them dwell in safety and they should be my people and I will be their God and I will give them one heart in one way that they may fear me forever for their own good and for the good of their children after them. …
