… Adam had been given a command in Genesis chapter 2 verse 15 the Lord God put the man in the garden to work it and to keep it to provide this is something that man was commanded to do in a way that woman was not commanded to do working the ground providing for his home and God says as a result of sin you're working your toil will bring struggle and eventual defeat this is gender specific punishment for sin so see sense distortion of manhood. Now, womanhood. Womanhood that God had designed to be good in Genesis chapter 2 that is marred in Genesis chapter 3. Again, see both passive and aggressive dimensions here. On the one hand, passive. Spineless dismissal of any responsibility. You see, we can't misunderstand the picture here. It's not that woman was not responsible for her sin here in Genesis 3. Man certainly had an ultimate level of responsibility. We saw that last week when God confronts man initially. in the accountability for sin, but woman was obviously and clearly directly responsible for her disobedience to God. …

WHAT IN THE HEAVEN IS GOING ON?
Ed Young Jr., 2025-11-16

… It says it. Genesis chapter two, verse 15, the Lord took, we're going back to the garden now, the man put him in the garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. So this should put to rest, which is the oldest occupation known to man. That argument. Landscaping. So, let me say that again. I didn't tell that joke right. Because that got a pitiful laugh. That joke was really funny. I want you to think with me. Just think with me. Okay. Going back to the book of Genesis. Are we tracking? First man, first woman. God drops work on man before sin ever entered the human equation. Do you understand that? Just like that. Okay. That should put to rest the age old argument over what is the oldest known occupation. I know where your mind is going, so I flip it and say landscaping. I think now you're just getting it. Really. do you realize we're made to work let me say it again we're made to work we're gonna work in heaven what do you like to do i mean seriously what do you like to do multiply that exponentially and it doesn't come close to what you're going to enjoy in heaven maybe you like to develop things maybe you like to build things maybe you like to decorate maybe you like to paint. Maybe you like sculpture. Maybe you like athletics. Take that and multiply that exponentially, and it doesn't come close to what you're going to do in heaven. So heaven is not …

Get Out of Your Way - Sarah Jakes Roberts
Sarah Jakes Roberts, 2025-10-26

… In Genesis 2 and 15, it says, Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. Now, wait a minute. In Genesis 1, he gives him dominion over the entire earth. But then in Genesis 2, he doesn't release them into the entire earth. He plants them in a garden. It's almost as if he's saying, In order for you to do Genesis 1 and 28 properly, I gotta start you in a tighter space. My vision is for you to be into all of the earth and have dominion over all the earth, but I'm going to start you in a garden. Because in the garden, I want you to master the character required to step into the promise. The garden is where we master the character required to step into the promise. It is where God cultivates who we must be in order to step into the promise. You don't know this, but some of the people you sit next to, they're not in the potter's house. …

… and I want this for you in fact look at how Adam is described in the garden in the last verse we read in Genesis chapter 2 verse 15 the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden to work it and to keep it this is so good those two words that are translated work and keep are only used by Moses, who's writing this, in one other way. And that's when he describes the responsibility of the priests who worked in the tabernacle. Numbers 18, 7 is an example. And you and your sons, talking about the priests, shall guard your priesthood for all the concerns of the altar and that's within the veil, and you shall serve. So the word that's translated guard here is the same word that's translated keep in Genesis 2, 15. And the word that's translated serve here is the same word that's translated work in Genesis 2, 15. And follow this. You know what these priests would wear? They would wear gold and onyx, just like we read in Genesis chapter 2. …

God's Good Design in Humanity
David Platt, 2025-09-24

… Now, here's where humanity comes in, what it means to be made in the image of God. So check this out. I promise, hang with me. This is going to be worth it. Look at Genesis chapter 2, verse 15. In this creation account, we read, the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to keep it. Now, we're gonna talk more about work in the coming weeks, but I wanna show you today this combination of work and keep. These two Hebrew words that Moses uses here, he only uses in what he writes to refer to one other thing. And that one other thing that he uses these two words to describe is priests who were working in the tabernacle. I'll show you an example. Numbers chapter 18, verse seven. You and your son shall guard your priesthood for all that concerns the altar and that is within the veil, and you shall serve. The word here for guard is the same word that's translated keep in Genesis 2, 15. …
