… I will make him a helper fit for him. Now out of the ground, the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whenever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and the birds of the heavens and every beast of the field. But for Adam, there was not found a helper fit for him. so the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man then the man said this at last is a bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh. …
… of Genesis chapter 2 the Lord God said it is not good that the Christ should be alone I will make him a helper fit for him so the Lord God caused a deep sleep death like sleep to fall upon the man and he pierced his side, took one of his ribs, closed up its place with flesh, and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into the church and brought her to the Christ. Therefore, the Christ shall hold fast to his church and they shall become one flesh. And of course, that's not how Genesis 2 reads yet, But Paul does quote verse 24 in Ephesians chapter 5 As you know, this mystery is profound And I'm saying that it refers to Christ in the church So this mystery of marriage that remained an enigma For thousands of years Is now revealed In the coming of Jesus Why did God design the world like he did and us like he did male and female just so basic everywhere It is a losing fight to try to cover it up and pretend like it's not that way And now at the coming of Jesus and the making of his church, the cat's out of the bag. …
… This is how Genesis chapter 2 describes it. God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to the human to see what he would call them. That's such an interesting verse. Basically, Genesis tells us that God is curious. God wants to see what sort of names people will foist on the rest of creation. Will Adam and Eve use names that have explanatory power? this is an anteater. Will they bestow names that convey fear? This is a murder wasp. Will their names hint at nobility? This is an emperor penguin. Or will they confer judgment? This is a sloth. Naming is an exercise of creative power. In our culture, we spend a lot of time arguing over how best to name things. How shall we refer to a person whose visa has expired? Are they an undocumented worker? An illegal alien? An unauthorized immigrant? A dangerous criminal? Careful now, the first step in any cultural debate requires that we choose our weapons, I mean our words. …

… good for the man to be alone I'm going to make a helper for him and so out of the ground the Lord God made every beast of the field and every bird of the air and he brought them to the man to see what the man would name them and whatever the man called it that was its name man named all the animals the man named all the birds he named everything God put in front of him but there was no fitting helper found for the man then God caused the man to fall asleep and he removed a rib and closed over the place with the flesh and he took that rib and made it into a woman and brought the woman to the man and the man said Zot that's Hebrew for hot dog. The man gave names to all the cattle and all the birds of the sky and every beast of the field, but for Adam, there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the Lord God caused the deep sleep to fall upon the man so he wouldn't mess up what he was about to do. and he slept. Then he took one of his ribs, closed up the flesh at that place. The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which we had taken from the man and brought her to the man. I love that. Adam, God just took some dirt. The Bible says made him. Eve, he fashioned. …
