… not only about the nations, but it's about God's people. We read in Hebrews 10.4 that it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to atone for sin. Now, people really were forgiven in the Old Testament. Blessed is the man whose transgressions are not counted against him. There really was mercy and grace and forgiveness in the Old Testament. And there was, graciously by God's design, an entire sacrificial system with atoning sacrifices. But what we see here from Romans and in Hebrews is that that by itself was pointing to something. And if that's all that there ever was, those sins could not have been forgiven. Needed a punishment and not a bleeding animal or a pigeon or a turtle dove or a lamb or a bull, but in the Son of God. Think about Abraham, Father Abraham. Now, we're going to hear in chapter 4 that he's the example of faith. Abraham believed God, Genesis 15, and it was credited to him, reckoned to him, imputed to him as righteousness. Wonderful. He's the example of faith. Remember chapter 12 when he's called, he's an Ur of the Chaldees. He's an idolater. He has up to that point in his life been worshiping nothing but the false god. And even when he moves his family and he comes to the promised land in Genesis chapter 12 after this great act of faith and believing God's promises. He comes and with a moment of utter faithlessness, he lies to Pharaoh in Egypt and lies about his wife …

Behold The Lamb - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2025-11-24

… the bulls and the goats and the doves and the lambs are an annual reminder of sins because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. The system isn't perfect. The system is pointing, and it's pointing, as John understood, to Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. And then we see heaven in the revelation, and we see the centerpiece of heaven in revelation is the Lamb. The Lamb of God is in the story. and then I saw in the right hand of him who sat, Revelation 5, on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and you know the story, no one's worthy to open it, to break the seals and to open the scroll but then verse 6, then I saw a lamb, John who saw the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world now is in heaven seeing the lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world. He looked as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. By the way, this is maybe a little more core class than preaching Sunday, but feel free to amen anyway, even though it's core class, because we are in the living word of Almighty God, and now we're in heaven. How do we get there? Understanding …

… of how Jesus is the new covenant and is the atonement, it says in Hebrews 10, 4, it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. So even though it was a system that God put in place, God knew even then. The bulls and the goats, they can't take away the sin. This is just a year-by-year system that is getting us to the moment where Messiah comes, and he is the one-time final sacrifice for all sin. And we see that fully in 2 Corinthians 5.21, where atonement has happened and forgiveness is possible. God, think about those two goats, made him who knew no sin, Jesus. him who knew no sin to be sin for us. The blood of Jesus shed on the mercy seat of God, a covering for all time for all sin, but also all the sins of the people transferred onto the innocent life of Jesus as he's now sent out into the wilderness. God did that. He made him who knew no sin to be sin for us so that in him, in Jesus, hello, we might become the righteousness of God. …
