When God Says Let Go
Steven Furtick, 2025-04-07

… going to talk about it today. We're going to talk about it today through a certain lens, because look what it says in Hebrews chapter 11, verse 19. It says, Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so, in a manner of speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. We know this is a shadow of another son thousands of years later who would be sacrificed for our sin. Even though God had said to him, it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead. And so in a manner of speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. Wow. Question, had Abraham seen the resurrection before? Answer, yes. His wife's womb was resurrected. She was like 100 years old when she had Isaac. Fathers, can you imagine being 100 years old and all of a sudden you're the father of a bouncing baby boy? …

The Growth of Faith
Charles Spurgeon, 1864-01-24

4. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off. His was deliberate obedience! He could bear suspense, thinking over the whole matter for three days, and setting his face like a flint to obey his Lord's command. 5. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide you here with the donkey; and land the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. Abraham did not deceive the young men. He believed that he and Isaac would come to them again. He believed that though he might be compelled to slay his son, "God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure." Abraham bade the young men stay where they were. They must not see all that he was to do before the Lord. Oftentimes, our highest obedience must be a solitary one—friends cannot help us in such emergencies—and it is better for them and better for us that they should not be with us. …
