… So let me read it to you. This is Hebrews chapter 5, verse 7. In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his reverence. That's what I think he prayed. So if we take Gethsemane as the chief instance of that prayer right there, loud cries to him who is able to save him from death, and he answered him, yes, what does it mean? What did he pray? I think it went something like this, Oh God, please don't let my human nature give way under the horrible pressure of this suffering. Don't let death conquer me, but me conquer death. Don't let the horrors of death tomorrow morning destroy my faith, destroy my obedience, my submission. Don't let me fail and be consumed by death rather than me consuming death. And God says Done. Just like he prayed for Peter. God heard his son's prayer to keep him faithful. …

Do You Know Who God Is?

… man it changed everything you know an interesting verse I just want to turn to real quick is um Hebrews listen this I I only saw this a few years ago I never noticed this but in Hebrews chapter 5 verse 7 it says this listen to this verse in the days of his flesh Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his reverence think about that the bible says when jesus was on the earth when he would pray he says he would pray with these loud cries with tears and then that's the amazing part of that verse it says and jesus was heard because of his reverence i never knew that i thought well jesus was heard because he's Jesus. He's the Son of God. But what the Bible emphasizes is, no, Jesus was heard because of his reverence. Like Jesus understood who he was speaking to. A lot of times we'll throw prayers up to God and go, oh, how come he didn't answer that? Well, were you reverent? God doesn't listen to every prayer. The Bible is so clear about that. He says, if you doubt, you're not going to receive anything. If you're praying for your own selfish motives, James says, you won't receive anything. …

Francis Chan, 2017-07-14

… Thank you. In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death. And he was heard because of his reverence. although he was a son he learned obedience through what he suffered Okay, let's just stop right there. did you ever know this? I mean, you guys know Jesus prayed. We all know Jesus prayed. But he says, in the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him, who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. that verse fascinates me I would expect it to say and he was heard because he's the son of God right he's the only begotten son of God this is why his prayers were heard duh right but that's not what the verse says it says he prayed and he had such loud cries and his supplication. And with tears, he's screaming to God. …

Pride: The Sin Most Hated by God
Francis Chan, 2017-05-28

… Listen to this. In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death. And he was heard because of his reverence. although he was a son he learned obedience through what he suffered and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him Did you guys catch that? This is Jesus. Jesus in the flesh. In the days of his flesh. Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death. And he was heard because of his reverence. That verse is awesome. Picture God in the flesh. Jesus screaming out to the Father, crying out to the Father, and the Bible says the Father heard him because of his reverence. You'd think it would say, well, the Father heard him because he's Jesus. It's like, no, the Father heard Jesus because of his reverence. But then it's even more fascinating because it says, although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. …
