… with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, declares the Lord. In other words, you got a really good covenant coming your way. Others say, but when the Jewish nation rejected Jesus, God rejected them forever. God says the exact opposite. We have this on the screen, Romans 3. What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all. Let God be true and every man being a liar. And then this next verse, Romans 11, it's like, you know, someone ought to say, Hey, Tucker, you've got to ask Paul if God has rejected Israel. Because Paul's very clear. I say then, has God cast away his people? Certainly. Let's all say it together. Not. Okay? For I'm also an Israelite. Of the seed of Abraham, the tribe of Benjamin, God has not cast away his people whom he foreknew. …
… and with the house of Judah. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt. He's talking about the Ten Commandments. My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord, but this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. … Lord when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. My covenant that they broke though I was their husband declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days declares the Lord. I will put my law within them. I will write it on their hearts and I will be their God. They shall be my people. No longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother saying, know the Lord, for they shall all know me. From the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sin no more. Oh, there's so much here we don't have time to dive into. The big picture point is God is saying a new covenant is coming, a new way of relationship to me through which I'm gonna make it possible for all people to know me directly through a sacrifice once and for all for all their sins. …
Lord, for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, declares the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." This is the new covenant, not the covenant made with Abraham, not the covenant made with Noah, the law, but a new covenant. It is a promise of the future salvation of Israel, a time when God will regenerate them, put His law within them, and on their heart write it, be their God and they will be His people. I will forgive their iniquity, their sin I will remember no more. That is the future salvation promise to the nation Israel specifically, unmistakably. That is the promise.
