Sermons on Isaiah 29:13

Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is but rules taught by men.The Lord said, “Because this people draws near with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw nigh unto me, and with their mouth and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which hath been taught them;

Now's Your Opportunity Marked (Part 10)

… the people that God puts around us That's why Isaiah 29 13 It says it like this And so the Lord says These people Say they're mine All these people come to Transformation Church And they wear crosses around their necks And their Instagram bio says believer These people say they're mine They honor me with their lips But their hearts are far from me and their worship of me is nothing more than man-made it's rules that they've learned and they started to put into practice They honor when it gets them another position or takes them up but when nobody's looking in the back of a cave will you honor? I mean I think it's very significant that this whole thing does not happen in front of anybody else. It happens in a cave. And God says if you honor in a cave. You'll honor in the palace. If you if you honor that's what integrity that word integrity It means you do the same thing in front of people That you do behind closed doors And this is one of the key things that's missing from the body of Christ right now honor is missing But when I look at the life of Jesus Who in anybody on earth Should have been honored Should have been served Like if I was Jesus I wouldn't have touched the ground the whole time I was on earth Y'all know what I'm saying Like I would have had people either carrying me Or invented the hub around …

… Isaiah 29. The Lord says, these people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from me. I just like that verse. God is showing us something. He's saying these people, they come to church or they listen to worship and they love worship. They love to sing. but when it comes to giving, they're like, what? I'm not giving. Giving? What? He said, their lips are close, but their hearts are far away. Watch this. Jesus taught us that wherever your treasure is, your heart will be with it. So how do I get my heart to be with God? I give my money and my heart follows. Your heart follows finance, not your finance follows heart. You understand what I'm saying? So I want to give God the first and the best of my life because I know it's not a money issue. It's a heart issue. And I want to tell the Lord, you have won the competition for my life and I will not serve money. I will serve you. I will have no idols in front of you. …

So did those Jews dissemble that came to Jeremiah, and desired him to inquire of the Lord. Jer. xlii. 20. “For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the Lord your God, saying, Pray for us unto the Lord our God; and according unto all that the Lord our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.” So did the Jews of whom we read in the text dissemble. They pretended to be enemies of gluttony, and drunkenness, and to dislike any such thing as associating with sinners; and so made a pretence of zeal against wickedness, in their opposition to Christ; when indeed they were actuated by a love to wickedness, and were enemies to Christ, for the sake of his holiness. So they pretended to be influenced by enmity against the devil in their opposition to John the Baptist, who they pretended had a devil; when indeed it was not enmity against the devil, but against God. Many pretend a great deal of love to God in what they do, when it is only love to the world at bottom. Ezek. xxxiii. 31. “And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.” The show which they make in their prayers, is quite inconsistent with their hearts. Their very approach to God in this duty has a show of religion in it without the reality. And those things they say in their prayers are hypocritical dissembling pretences. They profess honour, reverence, trust, humility, a sense of unworthiness, repentance towards God, trust in Christ as a Mediator, a willingness to forsake sin, from which they pray to be delivered, and thankfulness for the divine mercies. In this manner they resemble the Jews spoken of in Isa. xxix. 13. “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth; and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men;” and in Ps. lxxviii. 36, 37. “Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.” And many of them make a show in words, in conversation with their neighbour, that is quite inconsistent with their hearts. They are forward in religious conversation, in giving an account of their experience in a show of zeal, merely to be seen of men, their God is themselves, their own honour, and the esteem of men. It is themselves whom they love and honour in every thing, and not God. …
