A Rested Development
Pastor Kyle Heinecke, 2025-12-29

… The concept of God being a shepherd is so beautifully articulated in Isaiah 40, verse 11. and he will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and gently lead those who are with young. So David is just out the gates, a shepherd himself saying, I love you and I follow you and you fulfill me in everything that I need. And it's kind of weird to think of yourself as a sheep though. It's not bad, but I mean, it's not great. You think often that sheep are stupid animals. I mean, it's like you almost never hear sheep depicted in like a positive light. There's over 200 references in scripture of sheep, and only the times they're positively mentioned is when they're in the hands of or under the care of a good shepherd. shepherd. And kind of to counter my own point, in 2005, this really happened. There must have been a symposium of shepherds. There was some kind of gathering where over 1,500 sheep in Turkey were brought together. And these shepherds, what were they doing? I don't know. They abandoned their sheep for just a moment and I don't know, got coffee or something. …

God Our King
Tim Keller, 2000-10-08 · Scripture reading

… Lord comes with power and his arm rules for him. See, his reward is with him and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. He gently leads those that have young. Verse 27. Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain of Israel, my way is hidden from the Lord. My cause is disregarded by my God. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. This is God's word. …

… think also of care. Let me give you one of the most beautiful verses in all of the Bible, Isaiah 40, verse 11. He shall lead His flock like a shepherd. We're the flock, He's the shepherd. He shall gather the lambs with His arm. He shall carry them in His bosom. He shall gently lead those that are with young. Isn't that great? Aren't you glad the Lord is so tender to us? Aren't you glad that God gives us what we need and not what we deserve? Has He ever carried you in His bosom? You know when the lamb is weak and he takes these little baby Christians, those are the lambs. They don't know anything, many of them. Brand new Christians, they've come out of, some of them come out of almost sheer paganism. They don't know anything. They give their heart to Jesus. We're so wrong to put them through a theological test. We're so wrong to say, now you can't do that and you must do this and why did you fail? …
