… What's the antidote? Isaiah chapter 40, verses 28 to 31. It says this, the New Living Translation. Don't you know that the Lord is the everlasting God and he created everything on this earth? Now that took a lot of energy to create everything on this earth and on the planets and in the international space station and everywhere, everything. Anyway, it says, and he never grows tired or weary. God never gets tired. You say, what about what it says after the six days of creation, he rested? that to model it for human beings. He wanted to create the Sabbath. God does not get tired. He doesn't get worn out. So it says, he never grows tired or weary, which means the more time you spend with him, the more it's going to energize you. He never grows tired or weary. Instead, he gives strength to those who are weary. That's you. And worn out. That's you. And he gives power to the weak. That's you. Even young people become exhausted and want to give up. Millennials, Gen Z, they're tired too. Even young people become exhausted and want to give up, but those who trust and wait on the Lord will find new strength. Flying high like eagles, and they'll run and not grow weary and they'll keep going and not faint. So here's the point. When you are stressed by constant, continual, major changes, like you're going through right now, don't seek a quick fix. It's not in what you drink or the drug you take or what you smoke. …
… today miraculously. He's working in your life and in my life. How do I know that? Listen to the of 40 verse 28. God says, do you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. You may be thinking, well, pastor, I have no trouble believing that. I believe the power of God. What I have trouble believing is that the great God of the universe cares about little old me and my problems. Don't be surprised at that. Tom Constable says it best when he says, God is not too great to care. He's too great not to care. If you don't remember anything else, I've said in this sermon, remember this, the same power of God that is on dramatic display during these five times in history is working in your life right now. But there are four principles that we need to understand if we're going to harness and experience that same miracle working power in our life today. I want you to write these four principles down. Principle number one for experiencing God's power. God's power is primarily for his children. God's power is primarily for his children. That doesn't mean non-Christians don't experience the power of God. …
… working today miraculously. He's working in your life and in my life. How do I know that? Listen to the words of Isaiah 40 verse 28. God says, do you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. his understanding is inscrutable. God is not in heaven right now exhausted saying, oh, those four periods of miracles just wore me out. I've got to save my strength. I've got one more I've got to be ready for. So I'm going to just kind of recoup my energy and you're on your own Christians for right now. You work your own miracles. Does he say that? Of course not. God is not diminished in any way by any act of power that he exerts. God's power is limitless. The power that works in your life is limitless. The Christian philosopher Peter Kreeft said it this way, God has more power in one breath of his spirit than all the winds of war, all the nuclear bombs, all the energy of all the suns and all the galaxies, all the fury of hell itself. That's the power of God. You may be thinking, believing that. I believe the power of God. What I have trouble believing is that the great God of the universe cares about little old me and my problems. Don't be surprised at that. Tom Constable says it best when he says, God is not too great to care. He's too great not to care. That's the …
… and behold, I am with you always. I'm with you always, even to the end of the age. Isaiah writes in chapter 40, have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth and skipping down. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Does not the Lord support you for the sake of his own name? Support and encouragement, just like rejoicing, seems to be rooted in the very character and nature of our God. And John rejoices to know that this is being played out in a very practical way in the life of his friend Gaius. However, this rejoicing and this supporting should not happen in just sort of a willy-nilly sort of way. It can't be indiscriminate. Anything goes might be a fun song from the 20, but it's decidedly not Christian. Terrible philosophy. So finally, we come to John's conflict. is willing to warn his friend, verses 9 and 10. And so here we get into a little bit of the dirt. …
… Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might, he increases strength. Even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. He sees, he hears, he knows. and still today God is not disengaged from our lives to where we suffer without him seeing us to where we suffer without him hearing our cries to where we suffer without him knowing what we are going through we call out to a God that is aware and attentive to us and he knows our suffering much more than we give him credit. The suffering servant of Isaiah 53, the Messiah, Jesus, the Christ, being prophesied of here, tells us of him that he is despised and rejected by man, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. …
… O Jacob, and complain of Israel, my way is hidden from the Lord. My cause is disregarded by my God. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. This is God's word. We're doing a series on who God is, and the thesis has been that God reveals himself in the Bible under many images, under many figures. He's father and friend and lover and king. And if we take any one of those images and lift it up to the exclusion of the others, or even lifted up in favor of the others, you come up with a one-dimensional God. …
