… What's the antidote? Isaiah chapter 40, verses 28 to 31. It says this, the New Living Translation. Don't you know that the Lord is the everlasting God and he created everything on this earth? Now that took a lot of energy to create everything on this earth and on the planets and in the international space station and everywhere, everything. Anyway, it says, and he never grows tired or weary. God never gets tired. You say, what about what it says after the six days of creation, he rested? that to model it for human beings. He wanted to create the Sabbath. God does not get tired. He doesn't get worn out. So it says, he never grows tired or weary, which means the more time you spend with him, the more it's going to energize you. He never grows tired or weary. Instead, he gives strength to those who are weary. That's you. And worn out. That's you. And he gives power to the weak. That's you. Even young people become exhausted and want to give up. Millennials, Gen Z, they're tired too. Even young people become exhausted and want to give up, but those who trust and wait on the Lord will find new strength. Flying high like eagles, and they'll run and not grow weary and they'll keep going and not faint. So here's the point. When you are stressed by constant, continual, major changes, like you're going through right now, don't seek a quick fix. It's not in what you drink or the drug you take or what you smoke. …
… says it best when he says, God is not too great to care. He's too great not to care. That's the God we serve. He's not too great to care. He's too great not to care. Again, God says that in Isaiah 40 verses 29 to 31, he gives strength to the weary. And to them who lacks might, he increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait upon the Lord will gain new strength. They will mount up with the wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weary. If you don't remember anything else, I've said in this sermon, remember this, the same power of God that is on dramatic display during these five times in history is working in your life right now. But there are four principles that we need to understand if we're going to harness and experience that same miracle working power in our life today. I want you to write these four principles down. Principle number one for experiencing God's power. God's power is primarily for his children. God's power is primarily for his children. That doesn't mean non-Christians don't experience the power of God. …
… Isaiah writes in chapter 40, have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth and skipping down. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Does not the Lord support you for the sake of his own name? Support and encouragement, just like rejoicing, seems to be rooted in the very character and nature of our God. And John rejoices to know that this is being played out in a very practical way in the life of his friend Gaius. However, this rejoicing and this supporting should not happen in just sort of a willy-nilly sort of way. It can't be indiscriminate. Anything goes might be a fun song from the 20, but it's decidedly not Christian. Terrible philosophy. So finally, we come to John's conflict. is willing to warn his friend, verses 9 and 10. And so here we get into a little bit of the dirt. John is naming names, diatrophies. He likes to be first. He has an issue with authority. …
… accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. He gently leads those that have young. Verse 27. Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain of Israel, my way is hidden from the Lord. My cause is disregarded by my God. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. This is God's word. We're doing a series on who God is, and the thesis has been that God reveals himself in the Bible under many images, under many figures. …
