… But I hear God from heaven telling all of us like he's told me a hundred times what he told in Isaiah 55 verse 8. My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, and my ways are far beyond your imagination. for just as high as the heavens are of the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. You better stop assuming how God can take a little bit of sacrifice, a little bit of seed, a little bit of intentionality and multiply it into something that will bless so many others. You don't know what God has in store for you. I feel that thing. You have no clue what God will do with a little obedience. with a little faithfulness, with a little bit of love to somebody who feels like they're broken and downcast. You have no clue. That's why anytime I walk into a situation, I acknowledge, God, you're the reason that I'm here. …

… He said you don't know me My ways are higher than your ways according to isaiah chapter 55 verse 8 He says there my thoughts are nothing like your thoughts and my ways are beyond anything you could imagine for just as high as the heavens Are above the earth? So my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts All I'm encouraging you to do today is that if you're in a place where you've been digging in a hole and you've been in a fear of failure and you've assumed of God, don't do that. Because when you do that, you're limiting God to what he wants to do in your life and in your family. So let me give you the last one. It's already on the screen because I need you to assess like check the box where you're at. … He steps in as Isaiah continues to write. My thoughts are not your thoughts. neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord well are they really that different are they really that far apart verse 9 as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts as far as the distance between heavens and earth, so is the distance between my thinking and God's thinking, your ways and God's ways. If you were raised like me, you were usually taught that God speaks in a still small voice, that he comes tippy-toeing on the scene, and he always sort of whispers. But Nahum says he has his way in a whirlwind and a storm, and the clouds are but the dust of his feet. And when he does speak, what a surprising message. Often it is a shaking of our shoulders in the storm. Sometimes it is a reproof that levels us. We prefer the quiet setting. …

Praying When You Don’t Know What to Say
Guest speaker, 2026-03-22

… This is what Scripture says. For my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. See, culture tells you, build your brand, right? Culture tells you, establish yourself. Culture tells you, make a name for yourself. There's no one more important. Manifest your destiny. Make it happen. Build your kingdom. That's what culture tells you. And let me just tell you, it's okay and it's good to make plans. The problem comes when pride sets in. That's when you get into trouble. When that pride shows up, we stop trying to meet God and we start trying to manage God. I want to point you back to the ziggurat. There's a story in the Bible about this tower. It's called the Tower of Babel. You might have heard about this story. Theologians believe that this was likely a ziggurat. The timing lines up, the location lines up, and this was a tower that was built. So let me give you the story and kind of paint the picture for you, okay? So all of mankind speaks one language. And they all decide, you know what? Let's do something with this. Like we're all united in one language. Let's do something about this. And so they decide, let's build a tower. Let's get up to the heavens. Let's go up there and try to bring God down. In …

Sinking In The Storm
Steven Furtick, 2025-08-25

… the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways. God says, I know how to do my job. God says, I know who to let leave you. God says, I know who to bring into your life that is a challenge for you. You keep praying to be a masterpiece, and every time I send someone to be the sandpaper, you push them away, but I know what tools to use to turn you into the disciple I want you to be. He says, My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth. I hear Jesus saying, Come, when I read Isaiah 55. …

Putting God Back at the Center
Francis Chan, 2018-03-01

… I want God to dwell with me Earlier, two chapters earlier in Isaiah 55 verse 8, he says, my thoughts, they're not your thoughts. Neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, so are my thoughts higher than your thoughts. this is the passage I feel like this generation needs maybe more than any other where God says do you understand that the way you think is not the way I think he goes you see the heavens, the stars, everything up there that's you see how much higher the stars are than you that's how much higher my thoughts are than yours so keep on tweeting your brilliant thoughts. He goes, I'm just telling you, your thoughts aren't my thoughts. Your ways that you think are so brilliant, they're not. We have a generation of people that read this book and go, I disagree with that. Great. You should, because you're an idiot. …

Like his knowledge is off the charts. Like Isaiah 55 verses 8 and 9, he goes, you know, my thoughts aren't like your thoughts. My ways aren't like your ways. He goes, you know how the heavens, like the stars, the planets are so high above the earth. That's the way my knowledge, that's the way my ways and my thoughts are compared to yours. Like, do you believe his thoughts are incomprehensible? Like our minds just can't think like God's. You believe that? Do you believe that his love is to an extreme that you can't understand? I mean, the Bible says that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. Like it's not like he just kind of liked us. But he said there was so much love in him that he gave his one and only son. Man, who does that? Who with that much power gives like that? I don't love like that. I mean, do you believe his love is just on another level? …

The Book of Genesis (Part 1)
Francis Chan, 2017-01-06

… I wouldn't have done. And you guys, but do you understand that's the point of why we read the Bible? Okay, key, key passage. I'm just going to jump to Isaiah 55 verses 8 and 9. Just remember this passage as you read through the Bible where God says, my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declare the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. See, God says my thoughts are not your thoughts. So the way that you think, the way that I think is not the way that God thinks. And the way that I do things and the way you do things is not going to be the way that God does things. But he explains that as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways. And my thoughts, your thoughts. This is foundational for you to go, you know what? …

Trusting What God Says About Me
Francis Chan, 2017-01-04

… very important to this generation. It's Isaiah 55, verses 8 and 9. In Isaiah 55, verses 8 and 9, this is what God says. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Do you guys want to know what I think? No answer. Do you guys want to know what I think? Okay. Wrong answer. Did you see the verse I just read? You don't want to know what I think. Because my thoughts are not God's thoughts. You see how the heavens, he says, are higher than the earth? That's how much higher God's thoughts are than my thoughts. Amen. okay so when a teacher says hey you want to know what i think i don't really care what you think you're supposed to tell me what god thinks open up this book you think i wake up in the morning and sit alone with my thoughts i don't want to know my thoughts if his thoughts are infinitely higher than mine then what's the point of thinking about my thoughts no i wake up in the morning and I empty myself of my thoughts and I just start reading this. …
