… your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? And I said, here am I. Send me. this is the word of God for you, the people of God. Thanks be to God. So this story, the story of God tapping Isaiah on the shoulder, is one of the most famous call stories in the good book. It begins with an ominous-sounding phrase, in the year that King Uzziah died. These words remind us that humans often mark time. We like to turn to a new chapter in history by noting the death of a leader. In the year that Queen Victoria died. In the year that Archduke Ferdinand died. In the year that President Kennedy died. In the year that Martin Luther King died. When you start telling a story by announcing the death of a leader, you imply uncertainty, political change, cultural nervousness. You're saying, folks, we're perched on a historical precipice. What will happen in the aftermath of this influential person's death? Will we return to business as usual, or will chaos erupt? Will conflict spill into the streets? …
… for. So I've seen the Lord and now I've seen the grace of God. And that's all I need to get into the position that I'm about to get into. Listen to what happens next. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? So this is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Trinity. They're all in conversation together. They have a plan. They have a mission. There's something on their mind, something on their heart. And they're saying in the hearing of the one who just saw the Lord and saw the grace of God. They're saying, who is going to go for us? Who should we send? I don't know. Who should we pick? And Isaiah, having this revelation of glory and grace, he says, here am I. send me five words here am I send me notice that there is no unveiling of what the mission is going to be about There is no descriptor like, oh, and who's going to go for us to the XYZ place for XYZ amount of time and do A, B, and C and have a partnership with one, two, and three? No, he's just saying, who's going to go? Who's going to reach the people? And we'll see in Isaiah as it plays all the way out to the end, going out to the distant islands, to the distant shores, to the people who haven't heard yet about the glory of God and about the grace of God. They're staring at a screen of life …
I want to speak from this thought today. You better recognize. You better recognize. Father in heaven, we bless you. Hallelujah. We honor you. We feel the weight of your glory, the weight of your presence. You are here with us and you have purpose to do great things in our midst. The opening of the blind eyes, the deliverance of the captives, the healing of the sick, hallelujah, and so much more. And so have your way, hallelujah. God, your servant, thanks you for the spirit of wisdom and revelation and insight and knowledge and prophecy and full access to the secrets of heaven that I might feed your sons and daughters. And may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. I thank you for not only us coming in, but how we're going to leave out. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. Do me a favor. Give God a shout. Greet somebody as you take your seat in God's house. Hallelujah. Let's go to work, baby. I want to, I want to, yes, sir, I want to continue with something that we started. I was going to say Wednesday night, but Wednesday night was a continuum of the things that have been happening in our movement and our midst really since we concluded 30 years of ministry. Yeah. Because it became emphatically clear that we had stepped into another era, another wave of grace and glory for our church. …
… you are the one that God is getting ready to use unlike ever before and he's gonna clean you from the inside out I'm telling you it says also I heard the voice of the Lord what an encounter saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then I said, here am I, send me. The fruit and the evidence of a revived believer, it is their radical obedience they are unconcerned about the details they are unconcerned about the location they are unconcerned they're unbothered about the particulars of the assignment their eyes have seen the lord they recognize that he is the lord god almighty who was and who is and who is to come They recognize that in him they live and move and have their very being. They realize that he is good and his goodness and mercy will follow them all the days of their lives. They realize that he is faithful and loving and kind, that he's got your back. And if he is for you, then who can be against you? …
… resistant once God gave him his marching orders this was not a here I am like what Isaiah told the Lord in Isaiah 6 8 when God says whom shall I send who's going to go for us and Isaiah says pick me. Here I am. I'm right here. Send me, God. Moses' here I am is not quite like that. God responds to Moses and gives him a warning and a command. He tells the shepherd that was just out for a walk with the sheep, he says, don't come any closer. And while you're at it, take off your sandals. Why? Well, because Moses, the ground upon which you stand, it is holy ground. It was sacred. Now, was this ground holy because it was some sort of special dirt or something like that? Was this ground sacred because some California environmentalists had the land protected for an endangered bug or something? No. Of course not. The dirt itself was just ordinary dirt. it's funny i was having a conversation with the with a student recently in the junior high room we were just talking and we got to talking about one of the the laws of physics the law of conservation of mass he's a smart kid clearly but the law of conservation of mass tells us that matter cannot be created nor destroyed and so for this reason we got to thinking we got to brainstorm and we said, why don't we start a business? Let's get some jars of dirt, …
… he admitted his guilt, his need for forgiveness. Then the Lord comes and cleanses his lips and says, your sins atoned for. And then he heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send? Who will go for us? And then I said, here am I, send me. See that picture there? Isaiah understood. there's a holy God up there and I deserve to be punished by him and yet he's offering me forgiveness and then when God says, I need someone to go for me, and Isaiah goes, send me. I shouldn't even be alive. I mean, I'll do anything for you after what you've done for me. Here's what I want to do tonight. I want to give you a chance to pray. Because I'm telling you, this is what changed my life. Was when I understood reverence for God. When I understood like those holy angels. Man, they're screaming. Like if one of those angels flew down right now. You guys don't know me. maybe I could pray to God and say, God, could you have one of those angels come down with the six wings? …
