The Coming Of The King
Jack Hibbs, 2026-05-20

… it's remarkable Isaiah chapter 9 verse 7 the Bible tells us Isaiah chapter 9 verse 7 and of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end upon the here's some kingdom talk throne of David that means Jesus has to sit on the throne of David does anybody know where the throne of David is? it's in Jerusalem and over his kingdom to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward even forever the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this I like that God says here's how it's going to be and oh by the way don't sweat it I'm going to do it I like that that's how God flexes like that John chapter 1 verse 1 John 1 1 this is how he's going to do it in the beginning was the word the word was with God and the word was God he was in the beginning with God verse 3 and all things were made through him and without him nothing was made that was made verse 14 and the word became flesh and dwelt among us that's the king and we beheld his glory that's the king as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Hebrews chapter 1. I got to go fast. Hebrews 1, verse 3. Who, speaking of Jesus, being in the brightness of his glory and the expressed image of his person. Translation, if you look at Jesus, that is look at him, we can't look at him now, …

Jesus: Prince of Peace
David Platt, 2025-12-31

… Then let me just read the verse that comes after. Of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end. In the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. There is so much here that we don't have time to dive into tonight. But I want you just to think with me about this name of Jesus right here, Prince of Peace. So the word prince here means a ruler who has authority and power to do something or make something a reality. And the word peace here is the Hebrew word shalom. Can you say that out loud with me? Shalom. This is already worth your time. You're learning Hebrew on Christmas Eve. So shalom. And this word's so good. It's really hard to translate into one English word. So peace is the best attempt. But a fuller definition would be complete peace, justice, calmness, and goodness. …

… a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on his shoulders, and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness. From then on and forevermore the zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this." Well, the Son had been given, the child had been born, and the government was not on His shoulders, and He was not being designated as the wonderful Counselor, the mighty God, the eternal Father, the Prince of Peace. He had no ruling government. He was not on the throne of David. He had not established justice and righteousness permanently. What's gone wrong? Why this meager response when the prophets had such grand predictions? And then there Here is Isaiah 45, another Messianic prophecy where we read verse 22, Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is no other. …

… and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end. Upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice. from that time forward, even forever, the zeal of the Lord will perform this. Go back to verse 6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. The government will be upon his shoulders, and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Just a couple things that I want to draw your attention to. A son was given, and one of his names was Everlasting Father. It's not denying the reality of the Trinity. Jesus said, if you've seen me, you've seen the Father. He said, I and the Father are one. in Hebrews it talks about that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father's nature. In fact, in part of that verse it says, see on my cool little phone here, it's got a little Apple design on it for those of you that missed that. …
