The Spirit Led Life | Sunday Message
Greg Laurie, 2026-10-11

… And he is called the Holy Spirit. John chapter 14 verse 16. Jesus says, I'll pray the Father that he'll give you another helper. That he may abide with you forever. This spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive. Because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he dwells with you. And he will be in you. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you. So Jesus is saying to the disciples. Look guys I'm going to leave. I'm going to be crucified. I'll rise from the dead and then I'll ascend from heaven, but you will not be alone. I'm sending you a helper. It's from the Greek word parakletos. And it means one called alongside to help. I'm gonna send you an advocate. I'm gonna send you another of the same kind, or as another translation puts it, another friend for you. And who is that other friend? It's the Holy Spirit. But yet, the Holy Spirit is so misunderstood. …

Help Is On The Way | Sunday Message
Greg Laurie, 2026-10-04

… to our generation, to every generation, Jesus says, let not your hearts be troubled. And now he shifts gears. Go to John 14, verse 16. I will pray the Father, and he will give you another helper that he may abide with you forever. The spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you a little longer and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. And because I live, you will live also. Now he elaborates on it. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you. Peace I give to you. Not as the world gives. Let not your hearts be troubled. Neither let them be afraid. …

Called To Be An Influencer – Part 2
Jack Hibbs, 2026-08-16

… If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father and he will give you another helper that he may abide with you forever. The Spirit of truth, that's the Holy Spirit, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him. Wow. For he dwells with you and will be in you. Verse 18. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you. John 14, 23. Jesus answered and said to them, If anyone loves me, he will keep my word and my father will love him. And we will come to him and make our home with him. What an awesome declaration. What a great thing. This is so critical, church. This is so important because of the negative. The negative side, the danger side of this is found in Matthew chapter 7. This is absolutely terrifying. I don't know anyone who reads this passage and they're not challenged by this. I read this and I shudder on the inside because when I read it, I always say, dear God, please don't let that be me. …

Spirit, Not Self - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2026-07-13

… to come. And so John 14 verse 15, Jesus is saying, if you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to help you and to be with you forever. And who is that? He identifies this another advocate. He says the Spirit of Truth, capital S, Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. The world cannot know him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he lives with you. Now this is the most important part of this passage today, and that's not all. He will be in you. Jesus is saying the Father's going to give you another advocate. Now, that word advocate's going to appear several times in these next verses as we're looking through the gospel of John, but let's just drop down and finish this text, and I want to come back to a big idea. All this I have spoken while still with you, but the advocate, there he is again, the Holy Spirit, now we're getting clarification on this spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. So there's an unbroken connection I don't want us to miss today between Jesus and the Spirit of God. They are linked together not only as community of God, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but their missions within that community are linked together. And the Spirit ultimately is going to refresh our minds continually …

Tranquil Words for Troubled Hearts │ Msg 13/14
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-07-07 · Scripture reading

… He's mentioned in verse 16. I will ask the Father, He will give you another helper, that He may be with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the world can't receive. He abides with you and will be in you. Okay, that's fifth. You're not alone. You have an inward helper. That's the Holy Spirit. Listen carefully. The most devastating, demoralizing, paralyzing thought you can entertain when your heart is troubled is I'm all alone. Isn't that true? That's the first step toward gross self-pity. I'm all alone and the next step is nobody cares. Christian, here today, if you were to come to my office for counsel, the very best counsel we can give you when you say, I feel all alone, is no, you are never alone. You have been given the Holy Spirit. When you came to know Christ, he came to live inside you. The very word helper means one called alongside to help. Wherever you are, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, whenever, wherever, hospital room, mission compound in your home at this church with a sick child facing death standing by a fresh grave you have an inner helper and he has been called alongside to do a work of comfort like nobody else can do he will be in you it says here and ever since the day of pentecost in the first century, that's where he's resided. You're not alone, even though you may feel like it sometime. …

The Holy Who? | Max Lucado | Help Is Here | Oak Hills Church
Max Lucado, 2026-04-12 · Scripture reading

… Jesus is speaking, and he says, I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper, paraclete, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him for he dwells with you and will be in you. The helper, Paraclete, who the father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and will bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. When the helper, Paraclete, comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the helper, the paraclete, will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. when the spirit of truth comes he will guide you into all truth for he will not speak on his own authority but whatever he hears he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come and he will glorify me for he will take what is mine and declare it to you there's so much in these passages that deserves our attention look at the unity of the trinity the son will ask the Father. The Father will send the Spirit. God bless you. There's such a happy cooperation that's at …

When You’re Hurting and Need Guidance
Craig Groeschel, 2025-12-07

… in John chapter 14, he said, and I will ask the father and he will give you another, what does he say? He says, say it with me, he'll give you another counselor to be with you forever. And he is the spirit of truth. He'll give you a counselor, the spirit of truth that will guide your steps. In John 14, Jesus calls the counselor, he calls the Holy Spirit, the counselor. And this is actually comes from a Greek word that's very, very rich. In fact, there's no direct single word in the English language that can capture the meaning of this word. And the word in the Greek is the word parakletos, which means one who comes alongside to help. This is the counselor. One who stands with you. Who is the parakletos? He is your advocate. He is your helper. He is your defender. He is your comforter. He is your counselor. This is who God sends for you. a wonderful advocate, helper, defender, comforter, and counselor. When you don't know what to do, the wonderful counselor will guide your steps. So if God sends us the one who walks beside us, who guides us, he's our advocate, how do we recognize his voice? The counselor guides our steps. And to be very clear, the absolute best way to hear God speak is always through God's Word. …

Show the Word
David Platt, 2025-10-29

… He's preparing to go to the Father, and He says, I will ask the Father, and He will give you another counselor to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. That's what I give you. The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day, you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me. Therefore, I am in you. This is the picture. Jesus is giving us everything He has. All that He had, He poured out on the disciples. All that He has, He pours out on us, even through His very Spirit, His presence living inside of us. And this is huge. It's exactly why Jesus said to His disciples, look back up, same chapter, verse 12. Look at this verse. I tell you the truth, 14, 12, anyone who has faith in me, who trusts in me, will do what I've been doing. He will actually do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father, and I will do whatever you ask in my name, so the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. …

And he uses an expression here in John chapter 14 that I think is very helpful for us. He says in verse 16, When I go, I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." Now, what is it that Jesus is saying here? The words that John uses to speak about the Spirit here are the words, allos parakletos. Parakletos is the word paraclete that some of our hymns use to describe the Holy Spirit based on this text. And when Jesus says He is allos parakletos, He seems to be suggesting that the Holy Spirit is another paraclete of the same kind and quality as the Lord Jesus Himself. You know, in English, as in other languages, there is this paradox about the way we use the word another. When we say, I want another, does that mean I want a different one, or does that mean I want another one of the same kind? The Greek language has two different terms that by and large, not consistently, but by and large are used to designate another of the same kind and another of a different kind. …
