… in the ministry of Jesus. He told them about the Holy Spirit. Verse 37. On the last day, the great day of the feast, he stood and cried out, saying, If any man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Now, wait a minute. You can't appreciate that verse if you don't know the background. Notice when it happened, the eighth day, the last day of the feast. There was a great, massive procession from several corners of Jerusalem to a sacred place they came and they sang, they chanted, and they brought sacred vessels of gold. And they had water in those vessels of gold. And when they arrived at the rendezvous spot, they poured out the water. And as they poured the water out, these priests and the people around in traditional fashion uttered these words, Ho everyone that thirsts Come ye to the water and drink Others said in chant form With joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation Those are two verses from the prophecy of Isaiah Now right in the middle of that chant He stood up He made himself obvious to everyone and I am convinced he said with a loud voice, this is water that gives no life. …

… I wrote several down just in my own thoughts this afternoon. In John chapter 7, Jesus says, come to me and drink. In fact, look at this one because it's just such a fascinating passage. In John 7, if you have your Bibles, turn there. If you don't have your Bible, go home and get it. No, just kidding, just kidding. John 7. Just real quick look at this one passage. He says on verse 37, on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out saying, if anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. This is, how big is a drink? A drink becomes a river. See, it's the little things of great quality, of great purity. the disciples asked Jesus increase our faith and he said faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain it was actually not trying to embellish or give us emotionally encouraging motivating words he was stating a reality faith that is genuine faith only this size if it stands by itself can actually move a mountain. …

God’s Pursuit: His Glory in Our Joy
David Mathis, 2025-10-11

Jesus says to you right now in John 7 37 if anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink and Jesus says to you right now in John 6 35 I am the bread of life whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst like father like son The father plays street vendor in Isaiah 55, and the son is a street vendor in John 6 and 7. And you know what? The Bible ends with the voice of the street vendor. This is really amazing. This helps confirm how significant this theme is. This is not marginal. This is not a marginal emphasis this weekend. This is where the Bible ends in Revelation chapter 22, verse 17. Right? Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Channeling the prophet Isaiah. Jesus satisfies the longing soul already in measure and one day in full. He is living water for your thirst, true bread for your hunger, milk for your strength, wine for joy, and all without cost because he himself paid it. …

… And where I am, you cannot come. Then on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Therefore, many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, Truly this is the prophet. And others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Will the Christ come out of Galilee? Has not Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem where David was? And so there was a division among the people because of Him. And now some of them wanted to take him, but no one laid hands on him. Then the officers came to the chief priests and the Pharisees who said to them, Why have you not brought him? …
