A Man with a Message (Part 2 of 2)
Alistair Begg, 2026-09-11

… a strange man. He was a strange man. He had a very interesting beginning. The details of his birth, you can read in Luke chapter 1, verse 41 and following. He had a very strange beginning, but also he was pretty strange by this point in his life. It's not usual for people to be identified by their clothes and their diet. Maybe the Old Testament prophets, but I can think of many in the New Testament whose lifestyle is described for us in this way, and therefore, it must be of note. And verse 6, we're told that he wore clothing made of camel's hair with a leather belt round his waist. Now, this is a kind of prophetic look that he had, if you like. People would have said, Why are you dressing up like that? Do you think you're one of the Old Testament prophets? And he said, Maybe. Because in one sense he was. He was like the last of the Old Testament prophets. He's not only a strange man, but he's in a strange place. And so John came—notice verse 4—baptizing in the desert region. The desert region. If you're going to start something, why wouldn't you start where the crowds are? Would make sense, wouldn't it? …

Dr. Kevin DeYoung | The Magnificat
Kevin DeYoung, 2025-12-16 · Scripture reading

… and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. And Mary said, my soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed. For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. …

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. All right. Now I'm going to give you your title. I have good news for you today. This is going to be the best holiday message you ever heard in your life. Look at your neighbor and tell them my title. You don't have to. Didn't that feel good to hear that? All the stuff you've got to do between now and December 25th. Look at your other neighbor, the one you really wanted to talk to all along, but you were just being nice to that guy. And tell him, you don't have to. Let's give God praise in the place. Come on, if you want to. You don't have to. You may be seated. If I start preaching in a minute and you want to stand back up, you can, but you don't have to. Now, the Lord was convicting me recently because I was going through a list of responsibilities, and the responsibilities I was listing were formerly prayer requests that I had prayed. …
