I'd like to invite you to take out of your bulletin, your GPS, your Grow, Pray, and Study Guide. If you're watching at home, I'd like to encourage you to have a pen and paper handy. You'll find there's a place to take notes here, and then on the backside, you'll find our daily scripture readings that all tie back into today's message. I'd like to encourage you to be people who read your Bible every day and to find these scriptures that might encourage you to continue to think about what we're talking about today. So we continue in our series on the issues that divide us. One of those divisive issues in our country today is how we look at how we ensure that health care happens for the vulnerable in our midst. And really a whole host of other questions around health care and the role that government plays in that. And the Atlantic Monthly has said this last year that the question that will decide the 2016 election is how we will address health care needs of Americans beginning in 2017. Your Part to Play in the Kingdom Economy of God - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2026-08-10 · Scripture reading

… as we think about the kingdom economy of God. It says, on one occasion, an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. Teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Well, what is written in the law, he replied. In other words, you're looking back at the Old Testament now. What does it say in the Old Testament about the question that you're raising? How do you read it? And he said, well, I think, and the guy answers well. He says, love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. And because we know Jesus taught us this, love your neighbor as yourself. Now, Jesus had answered the question when it was posed to him. What's the greatest commandment? This is what he said. It's the parable of the good Samaritan. Do you like it too? Well, let's listen to how it starts. On one occasion, an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. Teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? What is written in the law, Jesus replied. How do you read it? He answered, love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. …

Scott Black Johnston, 2025-09-28 · Scripture reading

… which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers? The lawyer said, the one who showed him mercy. Jesus said to him, go and do likewise. This is the word of God for you, the people of God. Thanks be to God. Thank you. Somewhere along the line, you may have heard Jews, Christians, and Muslims referred to as people of the book. This designation refers to the fact that these three religions each venerate a book, the Torah, the Christian Bible, and the Koran. It's impossible really to imagine these communities without their ancient manuscripts. Believers read them, study them, sing about them, argue over them, and preach on them. The people of the book have a deep reverence for the words that appear on the pages of these texts. And this reverence filters into the wider culture. Right here in New York City, in April of 1789, George Washington was sworn in as the first president of the United States. …
